{ chapter 11 : prisoners }

"I fashioned you from jewels and stone,
I made you in the image of myself."

Most of the crew were busy prepping everything for when the boat docked but Caspian stood with Gwen and Edmund as they watched the island getting closer and closer. Captain Drinian was suspicious of the approaching island but stayed neutral, knowing that he followed the orders from Caspian whilst on this journey.

"The Lone Islands, the port of Narrowhaven."

Caspian looked through the telescope before handing it to Edmund. "Strange, not a Narnian flag in sight."

"But the Lone Islands have always been Narnia's."

"Doesn't that sound suspicious?" Gwen wondered aloud, taking the telescope from Edmund and peering across the waters.

"I say we prepare a landing party." Edmund decided, turning to the Captain when nothing had been said. "Drinian?"

Truthfully, Captain Drinian was wincing at what he was about to say as he knew that it would not go down well with the young king. "Forgive me, your majesty but the chain of command starts with King Caspian on this ship."

"Right." He mumbled, his eyebrows furrowed because he was not happy with the chain of command.

"Don't worry Ed, you're not the only one who finds it infuriating." Gwen nudged his side and spoke quietly so that the others would not hear her.

Luckily, Caspian was too busy planning the trip with Captain Drinian to notice that he was being gossiped about. No matter how long Gwen had been working alongside the king, she still hated that she was bossed around by him and never able to give orders; even when she knew more about certain situations than her partner.

"We'll use longboats. Drinian, pick some men and come ashore." The Captain nodded and disappeared with Edmund not far behind as he went to find Lucy, Caspian turned to Gwen and rolled his tongue in his cheek. "Suppose I can't convince you to stay on board?"

"No."

"Even if I ordered you?"

"I wouldn't listen." She said calmly, not taking her eyes off the water as she refused to look at him. She hated when he acted high and mighty with her, she hated being told what to do and there was a part of her that knew he had made the wrong call. It was almost dark and they were going to try searching an unknown island — it would have made more sense to wait until morning and use the daylight to their advantage.

Of course, she could not complain or argue because he was the king and he made the orders.

"Thought so, Tavros?" Caspian turned to the minotaur and signalled him to begin gathering troops for the mission.
