I stand at the vault door with Scott standing across from me as I rub my hands together, trying to keep myself from fidgeting so much, but failing. "Anything?" I ask as he focuses his hearing to find out what's going on. "They're looking for us. Someone's going to have to go out there."

I look back towards the two sick she-wolves and see Kira checking on Melody after she was done with Malia who's laying down on the floor. Kira rubs her best friend's arm in a comforting manner as she breathes heavily. The raven haired kitsune turns to look at us with a concerned expression. Something tells me my friends don't have long before whatever this sickness is kills them.

Scott brings his hand up and my eyes widen when I see a dark black liquid pool under his cuticles before spilling out and dripping down his knuckles. I talk to Scott for a few minutes about what I'm gonna do. Since I'm not reacting as badly as the rest of them I should head up and keep the faculty from searching.

I'll come up with an excuse, I'm pretty good at that. I've been doing this stuff for long enough. Scott nods when we're done and goes to sit down. Well, more like he has too. He's not looking so good. Kira comes to his side when he sits and rubs his back. I look over at Melody and see her curled into a ball on the floor, shivering.

I stare at her trembling form sadly and walk over to her. Scott said the wolfsbane should be out of her system by now and I hope he's right. Cause if she was already weak from it when she got sick then maybe she's even more worse off than the others. I crouch down beside her and shake her gently. "Melody..."

She stirs slightly and I reach forward to press the back of my hand against her forehead. It feels really warm. That's not good. "Melody." I try my hardest to ignore the black staining her lips and nails. I push her dark brown hair behind her ear as she begins lifting her head up and move my hand to her shoulder, brushing my thumb back and forth across her heated skin.

"Hey," I say softly as she opens her eyes, blinking a few times before sitting up. "What's going on?" She asks with a scratchy voice and I gaze at her sympathetically. "I gotta leave for a few, okay?" The smallest amount of fear enters her eyes as she blinks, as if trying to force her vision to clear.

"Where are you going?" Her voice is soft and timid making me feel kind of bad. I don't know what's going on with her, but it's making her scared and totally different from the strong girl I know she is. "Whatever's happening, it's worse for you guys. That means it's not just people getting sick, it's another assassin."

Melody glances over at Malia then Scott and Kira before turning her gaze back on me. She reaches out and places her hand on my knee, gazing up at me with glossy eyes that make my heart ache at the sight. "But- but if you g-go out there alone we... we can't help you."

"You can barley stand up. And you'll be even more vulnerable if you come with me. The safest place for you guys right now is this vault. The assassin isn't after me. I'll be fine." She nods hesitantly and I notice her shivering had returned.

"I'm gonna need you to hold on to something for me." She nods again and I take off my jacket leaving me in my hoodie. She chuckles weakly and leans forward so I can wrap it around her shoulders. "Perfect fit. Besides I know how much you love to wear my clothes."

She laughs weakly and slips her arms through the sleeves, wrapping the material tightly around herself. "It's because the place I feel the safest is with you," she murmurs and I smile fondly at her words. "Having your scent is like actually having you beside me and it makes me feel safe."

"Well, that would make sense since I am your anchor and in a human way you're mine." She smiles with teary eyes and I cover her hand that's on my knee with mine. "Promise me you'll come back." I stare down into her face as all her strange behavior suddenly makes a lot more sense.
