◾Stiles◾

I lie in Melody's bed with her sleeping in my arms. I'd spent most of the night trying to catch her up on all the crazy things that have happened to me and Scott from the time he was bitten. She's told me a lot more about herself now that I know what she is. I stare up at the ceiling, waiting for sleep that I know will never come.

I haven't been sleeping well lately and it's starting to get to me a little bit. I rub my eyes, careful not to wake Melody in the process. I watch as the night goes by agonizingly slow. The moment I see that dawn light I feel slightly relieved, but it's another night with no sleep.

I rest my head against Melody's and close my eyes trying to force my body to rest if only for a few hours. It must have worked because before I know it I'm being shaken awaken. My eyes open and stare up into Melody's kind ones. "Hey," I say pushing myself up and rubbing at my heavy eyelids.

When I look at her again I see she's already dressed for school. "What time is it?"

"7:00. You looked really tired so I let you sleep for as long as possible." I run my fingers through my hair and nod in thanks. "I thought we could walk to school and then you could come back for your Jeep after."

"Y-yeah, sounds good," I say barely paying attention. "Are you okay?" I look up at her and I nod, rubbing at my left eye. "I'm fine, just really need to talk to Scott."

"Okay... Then let's go." I stand up, grabbing my bag and following her out the door, to the elevator, and out of the apartment building. She tries to make conversation with me but all I can think about is how the random key on my ring opened the chemistry closet and how the atomic numbers on the blackboard were written in my handwriting.

I have knots in my stomach due to what this information means. Melody stops trying and we stay silent for the rest of the way. "I'm sorry, I'm not talking as much I just have a lot on my mind."

"It's okay," she says and it amazes me how understanding this girl can be. Once I'm in school Scott immediately come finds me. "We need to talk," I say and Scott glances at Melody, who smiles in greeting. "I'm up to speed," she says and Scott nods in surprise. "Okay, so is she coming with us on this talk?"

I stare down at her and she stares back. "If she's up for it."

"I am. I don't want to get left behind." I nod and we leave the crowded halls. I lead them to the chemistry classroom. On the way there I explain how Melody got me thinking with what she said last night about Phosphors. I open the door and walk in with both of them. "So you mention how my key had chemicals on it, right?" She nods and I slip my backpack off letting it fall to the floor as my fatigue starts affecting me a little.

"And so that made me think of the chemistry closet and the fact that someone had to let Barrow in..." I'm heading for the chalkboard to where the atomic numbers were last night only to freeze when I see that they're gone. "It's gone," I say feeling a small amount of panic build in my chest but I push it down as I fumble my keyring out of my pocket.

"Okay, it doesn't matter though. It doesn't matter. I've still got the key." I turn and head back over to the closet, ignoring the look Scott's giving me. I search my keyring and feel even more frustrated when I can't find it. "What the hell? I had it... I had it here, I swear to God."

"The key you were talking about last night?"

"Yeah, I showed it to you, right?" I ask him almost afraid that I really am losing my mind. "Didn't I show it to you?"

"No, you just told me about it. I never actually saw it," Scott says and Melody takes a step closer to me, wrapping her hands around mine, almost as if she could read my mind. "I saw it Stiles. We both couldn't have imagined it. Maybe you just misplaced it." I shake my head, closing my eyes tightly, my breathing increasing.
