I grab my notebook and then my backpack, slipping it inside. I then grab my book, looking down at the cover and panic fills me when I see all the words are rearranged. It's been getting worse. "Hey." I turn around to look at my father who's standing in the doorway. "You alright?"
I look back down at the cover and see the words are back to normal. "You ready for school?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm good." He gives me a look and I know it's because I woke up screaming my head off last night. "Dad, seriously, I'm fine. It was just a nightmare. What's that?" I ask looking down at the box in his hands.
"Just, uh, files from the office."
"It says “Sheriff's station, do not remove”."
"Well, yeah, unless you're the Sheriff."
"Oh," I say and he gives me another look. "Now get your butt to school, alright?" I nod and grab my backpack shoving the rest of my stuff inside and then go downstairs to my Jeep. I turn the key in the ignition and listen to it start. I drive to school and park my car.
I get out and start walking in. I'm heading for the stairs when I see Scott jogging down them like he's being chased. I walk up to him and he practically runs it to me. I grab him by the shoulders and he turns to look at me. "Hey. Hey, you alright?" He's breathing heavily and nods.
"You don't look alright, Scott."
"I'm okay."
"No, you're not. It's happening to you too. You're seeing things, aren't you?"
"How'd you know?" He asks looking shocked. I hear footsteps behind me and I turn around to see Lydia and Allison. "Because it's happening to all three of you." I hear people shouting complaints and I turn to see a fast shape zipping through causing the crowd of students to part.
I smile when I see Melody on her skateboard weaving through the students. "Is that her?" I hear Scott ask and I nod. "That's her."
"Who?" Allison asks and Scott looks over at her. "A girl Stiles met over the summer. She moved here from Portland. She stopped to help him with a flat tire and they got drinks at a nearby cafe."
"Aw," Allison says and Lydia waves her hand. "Hello, don't change the subject something is really wrong with you guys." Lydia starts walking away and the group follows her. I watch Melody for a few seconds more before following after them.
"I'm no longer the crazy one," Lydia says as we enter the school. "We're not crazy," Allison says and Lydia has a know-it-all smile on her face. "Hallucinating? Sleep paralysis? Yeah, you guys are fine."
"We did die and come back to life. That's gotta have some serious side effects, right?" The bell rings and I do not feel any better than when I did this morning. "We keep an eye on each other. Okay?" They nod and I turn to Lydia. "And, Lydia, stop enjoying this so much."
I walk away with Scott and we head to our History class. I slip into a seat and Scott sits at the desk behind me. I watch as our new teacher is writing stuff on the board and students are chatting while we wait for the late bell to ring. A girl enters and I look up and realize it's Melody.
Her hair's down framing her face. She's wearing a green tee, jean shorts, and ankle boots with a thick heel. I look at the necklace she has on it's the same as last time, an upside down triangle. Her dark brown eyes connect with mine and she smiles. Literally the entire class looks up at her entry and stares at her.
She acts like they aren't even there and walks in, slipping into the seat in front of me, turning around after setting her stuff down. "Hi, Stiles how was the rest of your summer?"
