I race through the woods, listening to the leaves crunch with each step I take. I glance up as the full moon shines down on me and skid to a stop when I reach the stream that's half a mile from my house. I inch forward and lean down to lap up the running water, hearing the leaves being swept around behind me.

An owl sounds in the distance and my ears pick up on mice and voles scurrying from their holes in search of food. I inhale through my nose and pick up on something that smells delicious. I lift my head up and strain my ears to catch the sound of whatever prey that might be nearby. I hear something scurrying through the leaves and I perk up at the noise.

I lower myself down and keep my steps as light as possible as I stalk towards my prey. I creep closer and inhale the scent of my soon to be meal, noticing the lacking scent of fear which tells me it remains oblivious to my approach. Eventually, I spot movement up ahead and crouch down lower, preparing to pounce.

Suddenly, the wind changes direction and brings a strange scent into my nose. While I have no idea what it is a part of me sets off an alarm knowing that it is something dangerous. Before I could move a shape burst from the undergrowth and slams into me, snarling loudly sending whatever prey nearby racing right back into their dens.

Teeth pierce my shoulder and I hear an angry yelp leave my lips as I latch onto my attackers neck, forcing it to release me. Once on the ground I scramble back onto my feet and look up into the coyote's snapping jaws as it growls in my direction. I feel my back arch as strange, but aggressive noises leave my throat.

The coyote lunges at me and I race out of the range of its snapping jaws. I jump and land on the bigger creatures back clamping my teeth down on the coyote's ear making him bark in pain. I sink my teeth in harder and vigorously shake my head, tearing the skin apart. He shakes his pelt out and succeeds in dislodging me from his back.

I hit the ground and scramble back onto my feet turning to look at him as he whimpers in pain. Instead of coming at me again it decides I'm not worth it and races away into the darkness. I make a noise of triumph only for my stomach to grumble with hunger and I realize our fighting probably scared all the prey away. Stupid, coyote!

I jerk awake and immediately realize I'm not in my bed and Melody is not sleeping peacefully beside me. I scramble into a sitting position and look around, shaking off the leaves that stick to my skin. Raindrops hit my bare arms and feet making me remember that I'm only wearing a t-shirt and pajama pants.

I push myself up and onto my feet, taking in my surroundings. How did I get here? My heart rate increases when I remember the last time I was sleepwalking through the woods. Please, please, not again. Void is dead. He's gone. He's gone.

Please don't tell me every time I fall asleep this is going to happen. I can't go through this again, I won't! Why the hell is this happening to me?! I force my rapid thoughts to slow down and look around again. Just figure out where you are Stiles and then go from there.

I rush over to a tree that I spot from the corner of my eye, ignoring all the sticks and rocks that stab the bottom of my feet. I skid to a stop when I reach it and sigh in relief when I read the initials carved into the bark.

I smile at the memory of the day we carved these. We decided to take a small hike through the woods and have a picnic since Dad didn't have to go into work. On our way back Mom decided to carve our initials into the bark since we were just a few miles from the house. Every year on the day of her death I hike out to this tree and just sit down under it.

I smile sadly and take a step back my heart rate back to normal. The smell of rain hung heavy around me despite it only sprinkling accompanied by the smell of moss and decaying leaves. I shake my head and start heading in the direction of my house now that I have my bearings.
