◾Stiles◾
I'm standing in my room, taping down everything I need to. Writing things down with a dry erase marker. "Stiles?" I turn to look at Melody from where she is on my bed, watching me work. "Hmm?"
"I've been thinking a lot about what you said at the lake house. About Void." I stop what I'm doing and give her my full attention. I come over and sit down in front of her. "Yeah. What's this about?"
"I've been thinking and you're right. I remember everything I did in Mexico. How I would have ripped Malia apart to get to you. How close I came to hurting Kira. Slashing at Malia. I could have hurt you."
"I'm going to tell you what you and everyone else told me. It wasn't really you."
"How do you know?"
"Because I know you. You're kind, smart, creative, fun."
"But I'm not perfect. It feels... Like something deep has been taken away from me and replaced with something else. Like a..."
"Like a darkness?" She nods and I take her hands into mine. "I now have this little voice in my head that sounds like me but isn't. The voice of the wolf. The predator. Telling me to treat you like prey and I don't want to hurt you." I smile up at her and shake my head.
"You're not going to hurt me, Melody. You've found your anchor, you'll be able to improve. You'll be in control of yourself more. It'll work out. I promise." She looks into my eyes and nods slowly. I lean forward and kiss her forehead before standing back up.
"So, the Walcotts were the first," I say after looking up from the photos on my father's desk. "At least the first that we know about. Four murders. Sean, his brother, and their parents. They were killed by a professional assassin called The Mute. Weapon of choice, a military tomahawk. But then The Mute was killed by Peter Hale after he tried to blow up Derek with a Claymore mine."
I turn to the crime scene photo of the werewolf murdered outside Lydia's Lake house. "Next was Demarco. He delivered a keg to the party at Lydia's lake house. And got decapitated outside his car." Next I go to Carrie's photo. "And then last night, 23-year-old Carrie Hudson."
"It's a dead pool," Scott says and my Dad looks at him. "A list of supernatural creatures. Scott pulls out the list and Melody leans forward slightly. "This is only part of it. The rest still has to be decoded." Melody growls lowly when she sees her name above Lydia's with the number 24 beside it.
"Why am I almost as high as Scott?" She asks pointing to the number. "We thinks it's because they still think you're a Naiad which are extremely rare," I tell her and she scoffs. "Who found this list?"
"Lydia," I say and he looks over at me. "How?"
"She wrote it. Actually she transcribe it without realizing it."
"Banshee?"
"Banshee."
"Beautiful," he says and I nod. "Alright, what are these numbers next to the names?"
"We're getting to that. First, you need to know that the code was broken with a cipher key."
"Wait. You mean, like a... Like a key word?"
"It's actually a name."
"Allison," Scott says sadly and Dad looks at him. There's a moment of shared silence before I break it. "Her name broke a third of the list."
"And now we think there's two other cipher keys."
"Which will give us the rest of the names," Dad states and we nod. "Okay. So how do we get the cipher keys?"
