∇ʟᴇɴᴅɪɴɢ ᴀ ʜᴀɴᴅ∇

🔻Melody🔻

I set my box down on my floor and wipe some sweat off my brow. I'm wearing a black tank top with some buttons on the neckline, black jean shorts, and red and white all star sneakers. "Melody! Come here and meet our neighbors!"

I sigh and stand up, leaving my barren room and making my way through our new apartment. I meet my mom in the hallway and see a man with grey hair and a beard with a young women with long brown hair. "This is Chris and his daughter Allison, you'll both be going to Beacon High."

"Hi, nice to meet you," I say and Allison smiles. We stand around talking for a few hours until we eventually say our goodbyes. I go back to my room and start unpacking all my stuff. I put away all my clothes, make my bed and put up my pictures.

I pull my keys out from my pocket after grabbing my phone and start heading for the door. My mom is unpacking boxes in the living room which is connected to the kitchen. She looks up as I approach. "Where you going, sweetheart?"

"Out." I grab my leather jacket and pull it on. "Melody, I know you don't like it but sooner or later you have to say more than one syllable."

"See you later. That's three, bye." I pull open the apartment door and head down the hallway to the elevators. I press on the down button and wait for it to come. Soon I hear a ding and the doors open. I step on and press the button for the lobby. Once it opens again I make my way to my Jeep. I sigh when I see it and smile. It's completely purple and it's something I've wanted ever since I saw a picture of one.

My mom got it for me on my sixteen birthday after I got my license. I open the door and pull myself into the driver seat, putting my key into the ignition. Lightning flashes across the sky and there's a terrifying loud clap of thunder. I look around and see an umbrella on the floor in the back. I reach and pull it into the front seat.

I back out and just start driving, not really having any location in mind, but I have a full tank and the time. I turn on my wipers as the rain comes down in torrents, humming an old song to myself. I use the voice command for my phone to search for any near by fast food restaurants as I start feeling hungry. I'm heading to one when I nearly run into a guy that runs out into the middle of the road, waving his arms wildly.

I slam on the breaks and come to a stop a foot from him. I squint through the rain and see what looks like a Jeep, I pull off to the side of the road. I assume he needs assistance and park behind him. I grab my umbrella and open my door, jumping down onto the dirt, opening my umbrella and lifting it above my head.

"Thank God! Finally someone stops!" I turn and see a boy about my age, soaking wet, running up to me. "Do you need help?!" I shout over the roaring wind and claps of thunder. "Yeah, big time! I ran over something sharp and I got a flat tire. I don't have a spare do you?"

"Yeah, yeah. Do you have a jack?"

"Um, no, even if I did I probably don't know what it's called, looks like, or even does." I laugh lightly and shake my head. "It's alright I have one in the back you get the tire and I'll get the jack." He nods and comes around the side of my Jeep and I open the back door and pull out the jack that's on the floor.

"Got it!" I nod and we walk over to his Jeep and crouch down placing the jack onto the ground and start cranking it. Slowly it meets the underside of the car until we're able to get at the tire. "Okay, um, I'm assuming you know how to take a tire off?" I ask looking over at him, water dripping from his hair.

"Yeah," he says getting to work, wiping water out of his eyes. I scoot closer and cover both of us with my umbrella. He looks away from what he's doing and stares at me. "Sorry," I say leaning away to leave his personal space. "It's alright," he says going back to unscrewing the bolts.
