It had been a couple of weeks since Jake and Evie discussed their situation in Salem. The Armstrong had done exactly what he had pitched, he got a job at one of the markets nearby and at a mechanic shop not too far from the small apartment they had gotten. They were slowly getting settled into their new life, regardless, Evie felt different as every day went by with no answers.
As the sun would rise Jake would leave for work and Evie would go to the library where she would continue her search for a way to get rid of her dark magic or a way to suppress it. She had even found an article that mentioned the Balcoin name a couple of times but nothing that would lead her any closer to an answer.
Mrs. Bells, the librarian, had even teased the small brunette about living in the building. Evie walked once again into the building and straight to the librarian's desk, "Mrs. Bells, I was wondering if maybe I could work here. I already spend most of my time here and it would be nice to make some money."
"Evie, honey, I don't know if I can afford to have you work here."
"Please. You wouldn't have to pay me much. Just what you can, and I'd help you with anything you need. And if you think about it, I've already been doing that for the past two weeks. The only difference would be you paying me for it, and like I said, not a lot, just what you can afford to give me."
The older woman sighed in defeat, "Alright, but I'm assuming you'll want time to continue your research."
"Yes, that would be great."
The woman huffs and points at the cart of books behind her, "Fine. But start off by putting all of this away."
Evie squeals and runs around the table to hug the woman, "Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you. You will not regret it. I promise."
"Yeah, yeah, get to work."
Evie does as she's told and takes her time to place the books in their rightful place. When she was down to the last few books, she took the stack of four into her arms and discarded the cart to the side.
She walked down the aisles; eyes set on the books in her hands when she bumped into an incoming body.
The four books fell to the floor, and she released a groan mixed with various apologies.
As she went to pick up the books another set of hands handed her the fourth book.
She looked up and saw a pair of blue eyes.
She gave the blonde boy with a tattoo on his neck a small smile as she took possession of the book once more, "Thanks."
"No problem, it was my fault really."
She gives him a closed lip smile and goes to walk around him when he reaches for her wrist to stop her, when she turns to look at him sharply, he let's go, "Sorry, uh, I was actually looking for the art section. I have an assignment do soon. You... wouldn't happen to know where they are by any chance."
