Heeyeon throws a hand at the loud device on her night stand screaming for her to wake up. She grabs her phone and groans as she sits up in her bed. Despite getting off from work early, she spent all night catching up on homework.

She looks at her phone to see a reply to a message she sent last night. The message read, "Sorry, I had company." Heeyeon just rolled her eyes and locked her phone without responding.

She goes into the bathroom to brush her teeth and attempts to tame the black curls resting on her head. After dressing, she packs her lunch and fills up her water bottle, before stepping outside. She doesn't forget to lock her apartment before climbing into the car and driving to school.

In first period, she sits in the back of the classroom. Not by choice, it was the only seat available when she transferred. Heeyeon always prefers to be in the front so she'll give the teacher a good impression but now she'll have to rely on her perfect grades to do that for her.

Heeyeon watches as all of the students pile into the classroom. One boy in particular naturally catches her eye. He normally walks in with headphones in his ears but today he doesn't have them. However, his attention is still locked onto his phone screen. His black hair is covering his eyes so he doesn't notice the girl in the back staring at him.

As class begun, he listened to the teacher call attendance. "Jung Heeyeon" the teacher calls out. Jisung whips around in his seat to search the classroom. His eyes eventually land on the girl in the very back. Her eyes meet his and she shyly smiles at him. He returns the smile before turning back around in his seat to question why he's never noticed her before.

He's so deep in thought that he doesn't even realize that the teacher has called his name twice already. She's calls him a third time, and he jolts finally snapping out of it. "Since you're so focused, how about you work the first problem on the board for us."

Jisung reluctantly walks up to the board. He works out the first two steps of the problem before he gets stumped. "Can anyone help him out?" The teacher asks the class. A girl walks up to the board and finishes the problem for him. "Thanks, Heeyeon" He whispers. "No problem." She smiles at him before returning to her seat.

He watches as her curls bounce with every stride she takes. He's mesmerized by her. So mesmerized, that he forgets to return to his seat. Thankfully, one of his friends calls his name to bring him back to reality.

During lunch, Jisung decides to sit with Chenle. As he approaches the table he notices a girl sitting in front of him. The girl looks up and waves at the tall boy, causing Chenle to turn around. "Hey, Jisung" he signals the boy to take the empty seat next to him.

"So Heeyeon, you've met Jisung. He was my unexpected guest yesterday aka the reason I didn't come over."

"Chenle, I'm not upset that you didn't come over. You didn't respond to my calls or text messages!"

"Oh, umm- that was my fault too, actually. Chenle and I were playing basketball all afternoon." Jisung chimes in trying to vouch for his friend. Heeyeon gives an understanding nod.

"Heeyeon, thanks for the help on the problem this morning, by the way." Jisung smiles shyly. Chenle watches the way his friends look at each other, very closely. A smile threatens to break onto his face as he realizes what's going on.

"It's no problem, at all" she says. "If you need a tutor or some extra help, I'm always available. You can actually come by tonight if you'd like."

"That would be very helpful. Math is not my strongest subject." He admits. "Dude, she's like a math wiz. You're in good hands." Chenle assures. Heeyeon shoots him a questioning look.

"Then why won't you let me help you?" Heeyeon has offered to help Chenle with homework on multiple occasions but he always turns her down. She believes his pride is too great to ask for help.

"Pfft, because I don't need the help. My problem is mainly focusing. I just get distracted easily." He says rubbing the nape of his neck.

"Mhmm" Heeyeon says, disapprovingly.

Jisung is fairly amused by their sibling-like bickering. "How do you guys know each other?" He questions, taking a sip of his chocolate milk. "Oh, we're childhood friends. Heeyeon was so sad that I moved away, she just had to follow me- ow! Stop!" Chenle was interrupted by sharp pains in his shins.

"Chenle's like the older brother I never asked for" Heeyeon remarks, faking sentiment. "I can understand that feeling all too well. When I first met Chenle, he was shy and timid. But as soon as he got comfortable with me, it was like a different person took control of his body. I still question whether this is the same Chenle I met, to this day." Jisung says as if he's telling a scary story.

Heeyeon erupts into laughter at his serious tone while Chenle pouts.

The friends finish up lunch and Heeyeon excuses herself to go to the restroom. "Is that why you laughed at me when I told you about her yesterday?" Jisung asks turning to look at Chenle who is already laughing again. He nods his head trying to catch his breath.

"How did you not know she went here? You literally have classes together!" Chenle points out. "I guess I've just never payed attention." Jisung begins to feel bad for not noticing the girl sooner.

When she returns from the bathroom, Jisung can't help but apologize. "I don't know how I didn't notice you before, I feel kinda bad." Heeyeon just smiles. "Don't worry, I just transferred recently. Normally you have your headphones in anyway so I didn't really expect you to notice. It's all good though because we're friends now." Jisung smiles at this.

Friends.
