"Mew!"

Mew turned around. He looked surprised but he still smiled brightly when he saw me. "Gulf! What are you doing here? You're supposed to be in school."

We were at the shop. Two of our workers were placing food trays at the back of our minivan. Mew was giving them instructions.

I walked closer to him. "Classes got cancelled earlier today so Boss and I went to the mall."

He raised an eyebrow at me and quickly glanced at his watch. "Earlier today but you come here just now? What did you do in the mall for hours?"

I grabbed his hand and slid a bracelet as quickly as I can. I winked at him and let go of his hand once I was done. He looked confused for a moment as he looked down at the bracelet in his hand. I grinned. I raised my hand to show him that I was also wearing the same one. "I bought them earlier. Do you like it?"

When he realized what I meant, his eyes twinkled in glee. He smiled from ear to ear as he looked again at the identical bracelets we're wearing. I think I made his heart flutter. His was black and mine was white. Too cheesy but I like it.

He nodded with a big smile on his face. "Hmm. Thank you," he said and leaned closer to my ear. "I love you."

It was my turn to get butterflies in the stomach. I looked around and punched him lightly. Good thing the workers were busy and weren't paying attention to us. "Are you going to do deliveries today?" I asked.

He nodded. "Yes."

"Can I go with you?" I asked.

He smiled and nodded right away. Exciting.

And so I did. We were just laughing and holding hands in the car the entire time. I was so happy spending my afternoon with him. It was evening when we arrived back home. We were talking about something so funny that even when we were already walking towards the front door, we were still unconsciously holding each other's hands.

We both froze when mom suddenly opened the door and stood emotionlessly in front of us. She looked down at out intertwined hands.

My heart almost jumped out of my body. I immediately pulled my hand away from Mew's. I suddenly got nervous. "M-ma..." I stammered.

She looked blankly at the both of us. "Care to tell me what's going on?"

Mew and I shared made quick glances at each other.

"Ma, Gulf and I – "

"M-my classes got s-suspended today, Ma... so I just tagged along with Mew the whole afternoon..." I cut Mew off. I wasn't sure what he was going to say. All I knew what that I felt so damn nervous looking at mom's passive facial expression that I had to say something that won't make her mad.

She didn't answer. She just kept staring at the both of us.

Mew looked at me. I cannot read his face but I knew he didn't look pleased. He turned back to mom and spoke. "That's right, Ma. He helped me with the deliveries today."

I looked down. I think I made him upset.

Mom cleared her throat and finally spoke. "Did you have dinner already?"

Both of us shook our heads.

"Follow me."

We ate dinner silently. Why? Mom sat with us and was staring at us the entire time. She wasn't even eating. It's as if she intentionally wanted to be there just so she could watch us. She was particularly staring at Mew like she wanted to say something to him through eye contact.
