Chapter 16: I'm ok

"Oh sorry I was just trying to break the door open you go ahead."

Mason has the audacity to roll his eyes at me and then tries to open the door himself.

"It won't open."

"Wowwww thanks for that clarification Sherlock. I didn't know that!"

"Ohh my goddddd"

Mason starts whining like it's the worst thing in the world for him to be stuck in a closet with me. It's the worst thing for me to be stuck in a closet with him.

God help me.

"Mommyy?!! Where are youu?"

I can tell lily is getting scared and about to cry.

"Baby! I'm right here in this closet can you here me?"

I hear her little footsteps run towards the closet.

"Mommy? Why aren't you coming out?"

"Baby I'm stuck, I want you to do something for mommy ok?"

"Ok mommy"

"I want you to go around the house and find an adult. Find someone tell them mommy and Mason are stuck in the closet and bring them here to get us out. Can you do that love?"

"Yes mommy"

I hear her sniffle a little bit.

Tears come to my eyes.

My poor baby.

I hate when she cries it breaks my heart.
I start to sniff and cry a little bit too and I think Mason can hear me but honestly who cares.
My baby is all scared and alone in this big house she doesn't even know. God my heart breaks thinking of that.

"Are you crying?!"

Mason interrupts my thoughts.

"Yeah! so what?"

"Why the hell are you crying?"

"Because my daughters crying mason! You think I wouldn't be heartbroken to hear my daughter cry like that? Don't you feel the slightest bit of hurt hearing her cry? Your own daughter?

Mason turns his head away from me. I can tell what the answer is, he just doesn't know how to say it out loud.

I start to feel a little constricted. It's been a couple minutes since Lily went to go look for someone. I hope she didn't get lost.
My breathing gets heavier and heavier but I don't notice it. I've never been one to have claustrophobia. But I've also never been in tight spaces like this. I've never experienced a situation like this that makes me stressed. Everything else makes me stressed.

"Are you ok ej? Your breathing really loud."

"Yeah I'm fine."

I am fine. I'm totally ok.
It's so dark in here everything starts to spin because I can't see. Get me out of here.

"Ej, your not ok. What's wrong. What's going on?"

I feel the walls closing in around me. I absolutely hate this. It's one of the worst feelings in the world.

"Mason"

I start to panic.

"Yes Ej, what's wrong"

I can tell he's worried now too.
Gosh.
I can't breathe.

I hug Mason. I need the support.

Everything feels like it's closing in around me.

"Mason help."

"Ej I'm here, I'm right here Ej."

I know. I'm scared to death right now.

"Mason."

"Ej. Just breath, breath for me please."

I start taking deep breaths.
In and out and in and out.

I'm getting better, but I'm still panicking a bit.

"That's ok ej, just keep breathing."

I hug Mason really tight and I keep breathing.
He hugs me back.

I haven't felt this hug in almost 7 years.

It's so warm.

"Calm down Everleigh I'm here.

We stay like that for about another minute until we hear the door start to move.

"Mason? Are you in there?"

I recognize that voice.
It's Leo.
Masons face changes from worried to relieved.

"Leo, open the door. Why hasn't it been opening?"

"I don't know man maybe it's jammed. Hold on."

We hear Leo back up from the closet then kick the doorknob and open the door.

"Well I'm gonna have to replace that."

I take a huge breath and breath in the fresh air, Finally.

I look down and see lily, tears streaming down her face and I run to her hugging her tight.

"Lily baby it's ok, mommy's so sorry. Everything's ok love don't cry."

Leo notices that I was there to and looks back at me and lily with a worried expression.

"Evie? What were you doing in there? Is that lily?"

I turn to look at Leo and he stood there confused.

"We we're playing hide and seek and me and Mason apparently chose the same spot to hide in then got stuck. And yes this is lily, I wanted you guys to meet differently though."
