Author's note
Hi guys sorry for the extremely late update but i only got my phone back now hope y'all understand heres chapter 18

The entire drive was silent. Matt never asked questions and Eve never spoke of it. I was relieved. I'm not sure what to do about what I just witnessed, but I was sure about one thing: I'm done with Lyle Alexander. Maybe I'm better off without a boyfriend after all.

Matt dropped me at home and I noticed the lights were on in my house. I said goodbye to Matt and Eve and ran inside. My mom was in her room,in tears. "Mom?" I asked, entering her room." You back already?" She asked, her eyes red and puffy. "Things didnt go as planned. Is something wrong?" I asked. "Sit down," she said and I obliged. "It's your dad. The doctors called... Dad...he died, Lia," mom said and started crying.

"No,no,no,no!! No! He cant be!" I screamed and when Mom reached for my hand I stormed out of the house. I just ran, not really looking where I was headed. When I stopped to take a breath I saw that I was in the park. I sat on one of the swings. My Dad cannot be dead. He cant! My crying became so bad I had trouble breathing. My phone started ringing. I checked caller ID and saw it was my mom. No way am I answering this phone. No! No! No! It cannot end this way.

My Dad made me laugh. He was the fun guy. He was the reason why I was never bored or lonely. My Dad believed in me and what I was capable of.

                 *flashback*
I sat in my room thinking about Jodie and what he must be going through. My gaze was focused outside. Watching the raindrops falling on my window and listening to the pitter patter sound they left in their wake. The grey sky matched my dull mood. I was mad at the world,my family especially . They wouldnt let me see Jodie. They said it's best to let him be. It wasn't! They didnt kniw what he'd be doing in his room.

My dad entered the room. "Lia, come here,"he said. I hesitated at first, but then joined him on my bed. He pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead. "No one wants me to see Jodie," I said with a pout. "Baby girl. You know why," dad said. "But daddy,it's been six months now and he's still not speaking to anyone. Let me try at least. If I never try I'll just be wondering why," I said trying to  reason with him.

"Do you really think you can help Jodie?" Dad asked. "Maybe. I may be 13,but I know more than I should," I said and earned a chuckle from Dad. "Okay. We will give it a go," he said. "Okay?" I asked. "I'll take you to see him." "Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, daddy," I said and hugged him. "I believe that you can speak to him and make him start believing in himself again. The two of you were inseparable since you were three. I guess he thought of you as a younger sister," Dad said. "It means alot to me that you have such faith in me," I said.

"Sure thing kiddo. I'm only lookibg out for you and Jodie. I love you. Always," Dad said. "And forever,Dad," I said.
                    *end of flashback*

My mom never had that much faith in me. No one did except my dad. I stopped swinging and just sat there crying. There was no way of stopping the tears that were falling,no one could. He was my hero and best friend when I had no one. My phone rang again and I answered the call without checking caller ID.

"Hello?" I answered. "Lia? Its Lyle. I need to speak to you," he said. "Not now," I said. "Lia please," he pleaded. "No! I dont need your crap adding onto my already miserable life," I said and hung up. So maybe turning 16 was a curse? Lets recap:

1. I met someone I might have liked but put aside my feelings because my best friend liked him too.

2. I almost got raped.

3. My dad got into an accident.

4. My supposed-to-be bf cheated.

5. My dad died.

This hasnt exactly been the best birthday for me. My phone rang again and I immediately threw it on the ground(grass in this case). I dont want to speak to anyone. "Whoa. Someone has a temper," a voice said. I was startled and turned around to see it was Matt. "W-what are y-you doing here?" I asked. He came over and sat on the swing beside me. "I could ask you the same thing considering Eve just ran over to your place," he said. "What?! Why?" I asked. "Your mom called her. After the call Eve said she'll be at your place," he explained.

"You're upset about something. Wanna talk?"he asked. "I can't," I said. "Can you tell me what happened at the party then?"he asked. "Why? So you can laugh at how pathetic I am?" I asked harshly. "No, not at all. You are my friend. I wont. Trust me," he said. "Sorry for the harshness," I apologised. "Its okay," he said. "Okay, but Im not keeping eye contact with you while telling you," I said and he chuckled. "Sure," he said

"Robyn invited Eve and I to a party at her house. I dont really like her,but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. My boyfriend,ex-boyfriend,was friends with her,but never mentioned the party. Eve and I got there and he was with another girl. They were kissing and it looked really intense," I said and tears started falling into my lap. "Wow. Im sorry he did that. You dont deserve that. He's a bastard," Matt said.

"Im not sure what I deserve anymore. When you dropped me off at home my mom told me my dad just passed away. Brain dead. Thats why Im out here. I cant believe he's gone," I said the last sentence more to myself and really started crying. Matt came down on his haunches in front of me. He took my hands in his. They were warm, despite how cold it was out here. He lifted my chin so I would look at him.

"Listen Lia. Im really sorry for your loss and to find out on the same day that your boyfriend...never mind. You cant blame yourself," Matt said. "Its all my fault. Im not into what those girls are so Lyle likes them better. My dad worked night shift to provide for us, now he's dead," I said and turned my head away from him. "Lia. Your dad loved his job. They asked him to fill in for a collegue. He chose to go. Lyle shouldnt have asked you out when he knew you werent what he looked for. Its also his loss because he doesnt know what an amazing girl he lost. I doubt your dad would want you sitting in the park crying while your mom is home alone dealing with the same problem. Dont push your mom away because you're all she has left to live for. Ignore Lyle. Focus on yourself," he said turning my face to his and used the pads of his thumbs to wipe away the tears.

"Okay. I'll go home," I sighed and stood up. "I'll walk you home," he said." You dont have to," I said. "And if I want to?" Matt asked, a smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "Then I cant stop you,now can I?" I said with a small smile. He made me smile which I'm really grateful for and I'm glad he found me. "Lets go," he said. The walk home was silent, but not that awkward uncomfortable silence. This is the longest I've been with Matt since Eve and I became friends. I looked at him and saw that he was looking at the ground, his hair hanging in his face and his hands in his pockets. My phone rang, but I dont remember picking it up. "Here you go. I picked it up before we left," Matt said.

"Mom?" I answered. "Lia! Thank God! Where are you?" Mom asked. "Im okay. Im on my way home. I needed to  clear my head. You?" I asked. "Just worried about you honey. Are you alone?"she asked and I could hear the sadness in her voice. "Uhm...no. Matt is with me," I said. "Matt?"she asked. "Yes," I replied. "Okay. See you. Love you,"she said. "Love you more," I said and hung up.

"You never told me why you came to the park," I said to Matt. "Needed to think," he said. "About? Wait let me guess. Girl problems?" I asked. "I guess," he shrugged. "Wanna talk about it?" I asked. "You have enough to deal with now maybe another time," he said. "Fine," I mumbled and he chuckled. We came in my road and I saw three cars parked out front in my driveway. One belonged to Uncle Joe, the other to aunt Jackie and the third belonged to an unwanted guest,Lyle's grandfather.
