WHO WILL IT BE?

CHAPTER 24:AWKWARD MOMENTS

Its Wednesday. It was totally boring yesterday. Eve came over to help me catch up with the work I missed. Today Tyler is coming over to help me with Maths. Its not that Im bad its just not my best subject.

Jodie was sitting in my room with my laptop doing who knows what. At half past three Tyler arrived. "Hey," he said. "Hiya," I said and let him in. "Do you want anything to drink? Water,cooldrink,juice?" I offered. "Water please," he said. I fetched him a bottle of water and we got started. "So today Ms. Erasmus started on Financial Maths. Its quite easy once you know the formulae and practice them," he said. "Okay Maths wiz," I teased. "But I do know the formulae in Financial Maths. It is a bit easier than Algebra," I said. He chuckled. We worked for half an hour.

Mom arrived home earlier. "Hello Lia," she greeted then saw Tyler. "Oh Tyler. Wheres Eve?"she asked. "At home. Im here to help Lia with her Maths," he said. "Well its good seeing you dear," she said and retreated to her room. At 5pm we rested and mom made supper. "Are you staying for supper Tyler?" Mom asked him. I immediately looked at her and scowled. Did she really just ask him that? Please say no. "I dont think...." he started but mom interupted. "You're welcome to stay unless Lia has a problem with it," mom said with a smirk on her face. Oh shes good. "No. I have no problem at all," I said and sighed inwardly. "I'll have to call my mom," he said an gave me an aplogetic smile. He went outside and I approached my mom. "Seriously mom?!" I said to her. "What have I done?"she asked acting innocent. "Nothing. Nothing at all," I said and crossed my arms over my chest. I then went to Jodie. "She did what?! Why?" Jodie asked after I told him what my did. "I dont know," I said exasperated.

"What are you going to do?"he asked. "What can I do?" I asked. "Thus night just got interesting," he said and I scowled at him. "What? Its true," he said with a shrug. "Whatever," I mumbled and went down again. "My mom said it was okay since shes working late. She wants to speak to you Mrs Thompson," Tyler said coming into the kitchen. "I really dont want ro cause any trouble. If you want me to leave just say so," he said once mom went outside to speak to his mom. "Leave!" I wanted to scream at him. "Its okay," I said instead. Mom returned. "Your mother says she will pick you up at seven," mom said. "Thanks Mrs Thompson," he said. "Pleasure dear," she said and went back to cooking.

Around six we sat in my room and ate while mom sat in hers. "So how you two getting along with the Maths?" Jodie asked. I think he sensed how awkward it was between Tyler and I. "We actually finished. She knew the the most important things so she needs to keep practicing," Tyler said. I never looked up from my plate but I hardly ate either. "Will you excuse me?" I said and went to the kitchen.

JODIE'S POV

You could cut through the tension in the room with a knife. Tyler and Lia are so tensed up for a reason only God knows. Lia excused herself and she didnt eat. Just moved her food around in her plate. She hasnt been eating much but always in a cheery mood. "Dude whats going on?" I asked once Lia left. "I dont know. She got all quiet once her mom said I should stay for supper," he said. Not her dumbass. You! I know why shes super awkward but why are you? "You are just as quiet," I stated. "I dont wanna say the wrong thing and make her angry, he defended. "Oh okay," I said and didnt push it further. He's not exactly helping anything or anybody. He's dating Eve. He just shouldnt jeopardise that relationship. "Im going down," he said and left the room.

LIA'S POV

I heard footsteps on the staircase as someone came down. Oh, its Tyler. He put his plate in the kitchen and joined me in the living room. "Are you okay?"he asked. "Why does everyone ask if Im okay i they expect the answer to be yes? Its as if y'all expecting me to do something harmful to myself!" I exclaimed. I breathed slowly and calmed down. "Sorry. I didnt mean to blurt that out. I didnt mean to blow your head off but Im okay thanks," I said. Wow, Im one confusing chick hey. "Im just worried about you," he said. "Im sorry. Its just that all anyone asks me these days is,"Are you okay?" Im so sick of it," I said.

He moved closer to me so that he was beside me. "You will always have us to shout at or a shoulder to cry on," he said and a smile played on his lips. I smiled. "Thanks," I said. "So are we cool?"he asked. "Totally," I said. "I have to clean the kitchen," I said and stood up. "I'll help," he said. "Its okay. You're a guest," I said. "It'll go quicker if I help. I could wash up and you could dry off and pack away since you know where everything goes," he said. He had a point. Everything will be done faster with his help. "Okay fine," I said. "You gave in real quick. Usually you would argue until you got your way," he said. "Wow! You make me sound spoilt,but you're right. I dont have energy to argue with you and you made a good point," I said. "And its only dishes?"he asked. "Yip," I said and he chuckled.

He washed up and I dried off just like we agreed. When I shook the container to get rid of the water inside it accidently splashed in Tylers face. "Hey!"he said and I laughed. "Im so sorry. I honeatly never meant to do that," I said. "I beg to differ," he said. "Well even if I did you could do nothing about it," I said teasingly. He made his hand wet and splashed water in my face. "Aargh! That was on purpose," I said accusingly. "Sorry I meant to do that," he said and we laughed. Once we calmed down I started wiping my face. He took the cloth from me and wiped my face very gently.

We stood there staring at one another until someone cleared the throat which brought me out of the trance. It was Jodie. I know for a fact that Jodie is going to ask me about this later. You know how you feel when a really cute guy looks at you? You get all giddy and shy? Thats how I felt. I know I shouldnt but I did. We cleaned the kitchen in silence with Jodie packing away. He watched us closely. These few things made me forget about the heartache of not having my dad around. The dreams are more frequent now and Jodie told me to tell my mom, but if I do that he will get in trouble and I dont want him to be. I'd rather suffer than let him face Uncle Joe.

JODIE'S POV

I saw how Lia and Tyler looked at one another. That dick of a guy,Lyle, was actuay right. Tyler does have feelings for leah. Lyle had a reason to be jealous. This also meant that Lia never got over her feelings for him. Shit! Shes got more problems than I thought. Ever since I came down they were quiet. Who does Tyler really like? Eve or Lia? Definitely Lia. "I think thats all," Lia said. "Well I'll be on your laptop," I said.

LIA'S POV

It was really awkward with Jodie watching our every move. "Oh I forgot to tell you. Theres some rumour in school," Tyler said once we sat down in the lounge. "Seriously?! Like what?" I asked. "Dont get mad at me okay. Some of the guys are saying that its right that Lyke dumped you because you were really pathetic. The girls said you only dated  him for the status he has at school," he said. "Wow! I never knew that they even knew me. Well thats what I get for dating Mr Popular. I cant say much because who am I. Hes so...annoying. lyke is just a cry for help. That fricking son of a devil,bastrd, piece of crap. What a dick move," I vented. I paced up and down. "Oh and I doubt the girls would date him if they knew what he did.

But then again some of them would because they're so desperate. Well I wouldbt sell myself so cheap," I said. "What a bunch of hoes!" I exclaimed.

Tyler stood up and took my habd in his. My hands warmed uo because of his touch. No Lia! Stop it! I stopped talkibg and breathed calmly and slowly. "Thanks for telling me," I said looking into his eyes. He leaned in to kiss me. For a second I almost kissed him back. I place my hand on his chest. "We cant," I whispered.
