WHO WILL IT BE?

CHAPTER9:A WARNING

Today everything goes back to normal. My usual routine on a Monday. Eve called to say that she wont be walking with me. My parents also left already meaning Im walking alone. I got dressed  and tied my hair into a messy bun. On my way to school my phone rang. It was Lyle. "Good morning," he said. "Hey." I greeted. "Where you now?" he asked. "Crossing the main road. Why?" I asked. "Dont. My granddad is coming 'round that way. I'll be there now. You can get a ride with me," he said. "Okay? Thanks." I said. "See you just now," he said and hung up. I really never expected this. That was really strange.

A silver Fiat Linear pulled up in front of me and Lyle got out. "Hi. I thought you could use a ride this morning?"he said but sounded more like a question. "And you just assumed I'd get in? How is this morning different than any other day?" I asked. "Before today you werent my girlfriend," he said matter-of-factly. "Uh huh. So one night together makes me your girlfriend?" I asked. "Unless you say no," he said. "Do you want me to say no?" I countered. "Lets leave that for now. This is not the most romantic way to ask a girl," he chuckled. "Okay." I shrugged and rolled my eyes. He smiled,kissed me on my cheek,took my hand helped me into the car. "How did you know I'd be alone?" I asked once we got in the car. "Eve and I arranged something," he said. "Oh." I said.

"Thanks Granddad. Remember,you dont have to fetch me today. I have soccer practice," he said when his granddad dropped us off at school. "Thank you,Sir." I said and got out. Lyle helped me out and put his arm around my waist as we entered the school together. "So how was your weekend?" I asked. "Fun. I tried calling you yesterday," he said. "I know. I was really tired that I practically slept the day away." I said. "Oh. What are you doing on Saturday?" he asked. "Im babysitting my little cousin,Wade." I said as we sat on a bench outside our classroom. "Really?" he asked and looked disappointed. I thought I'd take this a little further. "You know you always could help me." I suggested. "Oh I thought we could have our first official date on Saturday," he said. "Im sorry,but I cannot make it." I said and looked at him. "Gotcha!" I said and saw him visibly relax. His expression screamed relief.

"Do you really have a cousin,Wade?" he asked. "Nope." I said with a smug smile. "I'd have to ask permission first but I would love to go on a date with you." I said and he kissed my cheek. He does that alot! Not that Im complaining. "You made my day," he said. I spotted his group of friends looking at us from across the field. "You friends are over there." I said and nodded to where his friends were. "But you are right here," he said. "Go and join them. I dont want trouble." I said. "You sure?" he asked. "Yes! Now go!" I said and he hesitated before going to his friends.

Eve joined me on the bench. "So at school he'll be a jerk and be all loving away from school?" she asked. "I told him to go." I said. "You've got to be kidding me. Why would you do that?" she asked. "Im in no mood for Robyn." I said. "Once you and Lyle are official she has to stop," she said. "That wont do anything. She really doesnt like me and I really dont give a damn." I said just before the bell rang. During registration Robyn approached me. "Lia. I heard you and Lyle hooked up. Good for you,but just know that when you dont give him what he wants he'll leave you. He's not the one you want. I've seen how you and Tyler looked at each other from day one. I dont want you to speak to Lyle. He's mine,hands off. Im being as nice as I can be," she warned in a whisper.

"No you're being as worthless and as shallow as you feel. Lyle came to me not the other way around. Maybe next time you shouldnt be so open about trying to get his attention. You had him once and he must have known what a selfish person you were." I said in an equal whisper. "Dont test me," she said. "Or what?" I asked. "Im just giving you a warning," she smirked and went to her desk. Throughout the day she hasnt spoken to me at all and neither did Eve. Tyler and I made eye contact and I gave him a small smile. Lyle was at practice both breaks so I only saw him in class,but he sat with his friends at the back of the class. After school my mom picked me up. "We need to talk," she said as soon as I got in the car.
