CHAPTER 20:BLACKOUT

Lia's POV

I woke up and felt arms around me. At first I wanted to scream,but remembered that I asked Jodie to sleep next to me. I got up without waking Jodie. I checked my phone and it was almost twelve.

Downstairs I made myself a cup of coffee and sat in the living room. Its Saturday! I went on whatsapp and saw that Lyle was in my chats,but I didnt recall chatting to him. I read through the chats and laughed at how Jodie ended the chat. Eve left me an offline message.

Eve:hey babe. Hope you're okay. The game is at one. Whats up with you and Matt? Oh and Lyles trying to get hold of you,please ignore him.

I replied to her:
Hiya. Im as good as I can be considering the circumstances. Thanks. Nothings going on between Matt and I and I am ignoring Lyle.

Eve:afternoon,hon. Do we have to go?

Me: you dont,but I promised. See ya:-)

I then got dressed. I checked up on my mom and saw that she was asleep. Dad's death took a toll on all of us. After today Im going morbid. In my room Jodies still alsleep. I woke him up and told him we had to leave soon. He got done and made himself coffee in the kitchen. On my way to the kitchen my phone rang in my room. I ran to my room and checked the caller ID. Unknown. Here goes nothing.

"Hello?" I asked nervously. "Hi. Lia?" The voice asked. "Yeah. With whom am I speaking?" I asked. "Its Matt," the voice answered. Relief washed over me. "Hey whats up?" I asked. "Did Eve tell you what time the game starts?"he asked. "Yeah thanks. I forgot to ask." I said. "Its okay. I figured as much," he chuckled. "Are you at the stadium already?" I asked. "Yeah. 'Bout half an hour ago," he said. "Hey Matt. Enough talking to your girlfriend. We have a game to practice for," a voice shouted in the background.

"What was that?" I asked. "Nothing. See you soon then," he said and hung up. "Yea," I said more to myself. I heard what the boy said in the background,but why did Matt go all awkward? How did he get my number? Eve! Aargh!! Jodie entered the room. "You seem to be deep in thought," Jodie said,which startled me. "Its nothing. Can we go now? I left a note for mom in her room," I said. "Ready when you are," he said. "Lets go," I said.

We arrived at the stadium five minutes before the game started. Eve waved us over. "Hey," I greeted and hugged her before sitting beside her and Jodie sat on the other side of her. The stadium was seriously packed with so many people. Jodie and Eve spoke while I scanned the crowd looking for Matt. His team were called Tigers and their opposing team were the Knights. Finally, I spotte him sitting drinking water while his teammates spoke to him.

My dad and I used to come watch the basketball games since I was 10. We came without my mom since she wasnt into sports all that much. He would put me on his lap and point out all the team players and captains. It was fun to just hang out with him. Once he took me to one team player and asked him to sign my cap which I have stored in my cupboard. I only started coming to Matts games last year. The whistle blew signaling the start of the game.

People started cheering. The Tigers,with cheerleaders, ran out followed by the Knights. After half an hour the Tigers scored 13 points while the Knights were up by one point with 14. The crowds were screaming and soon I joined in. When the game ended the Knights won by 2 points with 27 and the Tigers with 25 points. While the players went to the locker rooms the crowd dispersed. "Eve. Wheres Tyler?" I asked. "He'll come later," she said. "Oh okay," I said.

"Hey guys," I heard from behind. I turned and saw Matt with a huge grin plastered on his face. Never have I ever taken a look at Matt and his looks,but today was different. He was still wearing his clothes from the game and the shorts and tshirt was really baggy on him. He was a bit built and looked really HOT with his wet hair flat against his forehead.

"You were great!" Eve said and hugged him. "And you're wet. Ewwww!"she shrieked making us burst with laughter. "Dont pretend you knew what was happening. If it wasnt for Lia being here you would have been lost. And its called persperation. Deal with it," he said and we laughed again. "Hey Lia," he greeted me with a smile. "Hi," I said. "Jodie. Glad you came man," Matt said. "Yeah. Im on bodyguard duty," Jodie said nodding his head in my direction. "Hey! I can take care of myself thank you very much," I said defensively.

We all walked home. Somehow Eve and Jodie ended up walking way ahead of Matt and I. "You were great. Too bad you guys lost," I said. "We were,but the other team were better. Thanks for coming. Though I would have understood if you didnt feel up to it you know," he said still looking at the ground. I was fumbling with my fingers. "Yeah but I wanted to come. Sitting there I remembered the first time I came there with my Dad," I said smiling to myself. "Have you spoken to Lyle yet?" Matt asked making the smile vanish from my face. "No and I dont plan to either. My life is one never ending disaster," I said and fought the tears back that were threatening to escape.

A car pulled up in front of us before we could cross the main road. Tyler got out. Eve ran to him,hugged him and he pecked her on her cheek. We all went to the car. "Hello Lia," Tylers mom said from the front seat. "Hello Mrs Lewis," I greeted. "Please call me Lee Anne. Do you guys want a ride home?"she asked us. "I dont want to impose," I said. "Come on in guys," she said. "I want you up front," she said. She dropped Matt off at his place and the rest of us at my house. Aunty Lee Anne asked to speak to me once everyone was out of the car. Oh no! "Dont look so stressed. I just wanted to let you know that Im sorry to hear about your loss. Tyler told me about it. Please send my regards to your mom," she said. "Thank you. I really appreciate it," I said and got out.

We entered my house and I went to check up on my mom. She was still in bed,the same way I left her. Its as if she hasnt moved at all. On her dresser laid a few tablets. I ran to her bed immediately and shook her. I didnt feel a pulse at her wrists either and I started panicking. So many thoughts ran through my head. "Mom! No! No! Wake up! Mommy!" I screammed over and over again. I heard footsteps approach me and a gasp as Eve, Jodie and Tyler entered the room. "Call an ambulance. Now! Please!" I said,crying. "No,no,no,no. No!" I kept screaming.

20 minutes later the ambulance arrived and I felt strong arms wrap around me,pulling me away from mom. It was Jodie. I clung to him. My hands gripped his tshirt tightly and cried. Next thing I knew everything went dark.
