Surprises

A month has passed since I last saw my mom. Its two weeks before Annabelle's wedding.

Allyson spends a lot of time home lately. Which leaves me alone. But not exactly alone. Jeremy has been keeping me company for the passed month.

He is fun company if we're being honest. We watch movies, we bake, we play and we even do karaoke.

It's the most fun I've had in forever.

As we speak he's seated on my couch, we're watching top gear.

"So what's the purpose of watching this?" I ask him. He smiles but still says nothing. He looks at me for a moment.

There's something that happens when he looks at me, it's like one minute he's turning to look at someone and the next he sees something that he cant keep his eyes off.

He doesnt reply, he shakes his head slowly. He grabs the remote and plays a show I love. Ridiculousness.

Then the shorts start playing. We both burst out laughing when a lady falls while riding a hover board.

The door squeaks open. I dont turn to see who it is.

"Gem?" Allyson says. I turn and look at her. She waves me over.

I already know what this is going to be about so I drag my feet while headed there.

"Yes Allyson?" I ask her.

"So you are really not going to listen? You are that keen on not listening to me?" She asks.

"Look , you guys are the ones that dont like Jeremy. Not me, so let me do me and you do you. Do you understand me?

When I told you that Colt was not good for you, did you listen?" I ask.

"That's not the same." She says.

"How so? How many times did Colt cheat Allyson, how long has he been 'getting his shit together' ? Huh? How many times did he disappoint you? How many talks do you have with him? How many times do you tell him to stop doing shit that he constantly does even though he knows that it hurts you?

What are you trying to say? Not the same? They are exactly the same, except Jeremy has never done anything to hurt me." I tell her.

She looks at me. Tears brimming her eyes. She raises her hand and she slaps me.

I look at her. Before I can return the slap Jeremy is already between us.

"I dont know what wrong but the both of you need to stop." He tells us.

His eyes are glued on me the entire time.

"Get your shoes, let's go catch some air." He tells me. I nod and do exactly that.

She walks to her room and bangs the door harshly .

We walk out of dorm and immediately,  the summer breeze hits my face.  A smile plays at my face.

I notice that his hand is entangled with mine. It's a weird feeling but I dont want to remove my hand from his. We continue walking .

Out the school, to the markets. He's completely quiet. From time to time he stares down at me and smiles.

"Ice cream?" He asks.

I stare him, a huge smile plays at my face as I nod frantically.

He looks at me with a small smile on his lips and an emotion I cant exactly put my finger on.

We walk again , hand in hand to the park. We watch as little kids play, people walking their dogs and teenagers eating ice cream like us or just hanging out and enjoying the nice and warm weather.

Suddenly my phone rings. It's an unsaved number. I pick up.

"Hello?" I ask.

Jeremy looks at me in question as if he's asking me who's calling. I raise my shoulders.

"Afternoon Gem. Its Alice. I need help here at home. We've moved the wedding date closer. I'll explain everything when you get here .

Please try to get here as fast as you can. Ally is here already." She tells me and ends the call.

The wedding has been moved closer?

"Who was it?" He asks.

"Its Allyson's mom. She needs my help. Do you mind driving me there?" I ask him.

He nods and we stand and walk back to the school. I walk a little bit faster than when we were heading to the market. All because I'm so curious as to finding out why the wedding was pushed closer.

He drives to Allyson's house and the entire time, we're singing along to the songs playing on his car.

Laughter booms in the car. As he talks to me about his high school experiences. He looks so comfortable. His hand drops onto my thigh.

I dont remove it , because this all feels so right. I just dont fight the feeling anymore.

He turns onto the familiar road and he looks at me with a little bit of sadness. I thought I was the only one who didnt want the ride to end.

He stops infront of the house and he stares at me.

"Well we're here." He says leaning over.

"Yea." I say signing. His leans in closer and I do too.

We kiss passionately for a minute then I exit the car. I run up to the porch and I knock on the door.

I turn and I watch as he starts the car. He stares back at me. The door behind me opens , but I'm focused on waving back at the boy who has oddly began to occupy my mind.

"Gem?" A familiar voice says.

I jump three feet from the floor.

"Oh my gosh." I whisper.

"Al?" I ask. And he nods. He opens his arms wide for me to run into.

I run into his embrace, and he holds me for a while like that.

But instead this hug doesnt compare to when Jeremy hugs me. It doesn't wake me up the wake his does.

It's not giving me any feeling, not even one equivalent to when Jeremy accidentally brushes his hand on mine.

"Yes we've all missed him." Alice says from behind Alyster.
