Natalia:

I hobble inside, and begin to work on my homework; trembling, hoping that my father doesn’t rush in and hit me again.  I breathe shallowly, remembering all the times in the past; where  he had hit me as often as he could. I finish my homework, then opening my unread text messages; I notice three new messages.

“You okay? Let me know if you want to meet up or if you need anything.” This text from Jordan came almost out of nowhere, he’s seeming to become more worried about me. I don’t mention this, of course; he has a lot to deal with as it is.

“Yeah, I’m alright. :)” I respond. I did want to see him again, but did not want to bother him. I get up, and walk into the kitchen; gathering everything for dinner. My father seems to have disappeared; probably to work. Luciano comes in, and sits on the counter; “Ciao.” He grins.

“Ciao. I’m making some dinner, are you hungry?” I ask.

“Always, I love your cooking.” he cheers. His grin fades when he looks at my cheek, and he becomes a bit more serious. “He’s done it again, hasn’t he?” He sneers as he cracks his knuckles. I nod, lowering my head slightly. He exhales sharply before speaking, “Go in the other room, i’ll handle dinner. You need to take it easy, you deserve it.” He insists. I stop in the middle of preparing the dinner; “Are you sure?” I ask, he reassures me, helping me to my room. Thirty minutes later, he knocks on my door saying dinner was ready. I told him he could come in, he helps me up; and we go enjoy the dinner he made.

“This is the best fish and chips I’ve ever had, thank you.” I manage a smile as I thank him.

“It was no problem.” He beams. We talk for a bit until I get tired. He helps me to my room, offering to do anything I need. I thank him again, and fall asleep soon after he leaves.
