Derek was in the waiting room with Ellis in his lap as she coloured in her clothing book, he had been waiting for hours now hoping that Meredith would be okay.

A few more hours had passed and Ellis was now asleep as it was getting late, he finally saw Miranda bailey walk up to him as she pulled him aside and held a sleeping Ellis.

"How is she? It's she okay?" He asked frantically With tears in his eyes.

"She is, but there's is one thing," she said

"What is it?" Derek asked scared as to what would have happened

"She lost a lot of blood from the wounds and that was a lot on its own, and there was a lot of bleeding during the surgery and she ended up losing too much blood from her brain and shes..." bailey said

"She's what, what is she?!" Derek asked as tears started to go down his face.

"She's in a coma," bailey said

"Ho-how?" He asked

"She lost too much blood, Derek, but she should hopefully wake up when she gets more blood in her body," Bailey said as she rubbed his arm

"Can I see her?" He asked

"I don't know she's really-

"Please" he begged

"Fine, give me the girl," Bailey said as she took Ellis from his arms so he could go see Meredith

"She's up in the ICU" bailey said as he walked up to the ICU

"thank you" he replied

he went up to the ICU where he found Meredith laying in a bed, she looked so small in the bed that she made look huge, he walked over to her as tears dropped from his eyes down onto his dark blue scrubs. He picked up her and gently kissed the back of it as he laid his forehead on her hands and tears started streaming down his cheeks as he started to sob.

"I'm so sorry, Meredith!" He sobbed. He couldn't hold it in anymore there was a chance that she was never gonna wake up, she had a four-year-old daughter to loved her more than anything and she loved her daughter more than life itself. He didn't know what he was supposed to tell Ellis, she would never understand what it meant for her mother to be in a coma.

Her daughter needed her and he needed her, they both needed Meredith to live, to live and to be happy for once in her life, yes she was happy with Ellis and when Ellis was born, but she had never really been genuinely happy, not since she was a little kid and she didn't know what was actually going on which was probably at the age of three, Ellis' age.

Derek wanted nothing more than to look up and see her green eyes stinging back at him, but he knew that when he didn't look up he would her still asleep. He could only hope she would wake up in the same week.

He sobbed while holding her hand for around an hour if not more until he finally felt like he couldn't cry anymore, he looked up and saw her right arm bandaged up completely to where you couldn't even see her hand but only the tips of her fingers.

It was then that he remembered his mother was supposed to come to Seattle that week, he loved his mother but the last thing he wanted right now was visitors, especially one that would only ask questions about his dating life when the only person he really wanted to talk with and spend time with was in a coma.

"How are you holding up?" Addison asked as she walked into the room, offering a sad smile.

"Still asleep," he said sniffled as he wiped the tears from his eyes.

"She'll wake up" Addison whispered as she walked over to him, rubbing his back comfortably.

"I know but, she just looks so...helpless," he said

"I know, it's hard to see someone you care about in that position," Addison said as she sat down on the couch in the room.

"She doesn't deserve this" Derek said as he sat down in the chair.

"No one does" she replied

"I mean, you see patients like this all the time, and you know it hurts the family but, I've bust never saw it from the family's perspective," he said

"I know, it's hard," she said

"You seem calm," he said, glaring at her from across the room.

"Because I know she'll wake up, she doesn't give up that easily, I've been through as she went through, I just wasn't in a coma or kidnapped" Addison sighed

"Then how can you be so calm?" He asked

"Because, me being upset, or mad won't make her wake up, the only thing that will wake her up is time, Derek," she said

"I know that," he said

"When your mother comes I'll distract her for you, and bring Ella here to help keep Ellis' mind off of Meredith's condition," Addison said as she started to close her eyes at the exhaustion from the long surgery.

"You sure you wanna do that?" He asked

"Yea, why not?" He said

"My mom..she can be.."

"Kinda a lot? Yea, I know, I have known you since high school" she scoffed.

"Everyone always thought you and I were going to end up together" she sighed

"Yea, until you slept with mark" he laughed and she joined in.

"Yea" she sighed "those were the days," she said

"And now we're here," he said as he watched Meredith as she didn't move a bit.

"Watching the love of your life be in a coma," she said earning a glare from him.

"Sorry, too soon," she said

"I just wish there was more to do for her," he said leaning back into the chair.

"There is something," Addison said

"Like what?" He asked

"You can do what you think she would want you to do," she said

"What do you mean?" He asked confused

"If Meredith were talking to you right now, what would she say to you?"

"She would tell me that she'll be fine and not to worry about her and to worry about Ellis and take care of her because she can't...and probably to get some sleep and stop crying" Derek smiled as he pictured Meredith telling him herself.

"Then go do that" she smiled

"Fine, but tell me if anything happens," he said Ashe walked to his office where he saw Ellis sleeping on the couch as bailey watched. She left after she saw him come in and he went to bed in the bedroom he had that was connected to his office after draping another blanket over Ellis as she looked cold and small.

Before he fell asleep he did something he rarely did and he prayed for Meredith and her daughter Ellis.
