It was a month later and Meredith still hadn't woken up yet. Derek was starting to lose hope, he still wanted to believe she would wake up, but it's didn't seem like his wish would come true.
He was walking back to his office after dropping Ellis off at daycare. Ella was also staying at daycare while Addison worked, Mark could easily watch her but Addison wanted Ellis to have someone.
Ella and Ellis had been inseparable since the day they met. Ellis looked happy but she wasn't as happy as she was when she was with Meredith.
They still talked about Meredith every day but sometimes it was hard to tell Ellis that her mother most likely wouldn't be waking up any time soon.
He sat down at his desk and pulled out a few files from his file folder and started writing some things down.
As he was typing some things down on his keyboard when he heard a knock at the door. He made a scowled look before he saw the door open and Rose stepped in. He hadn't spoken to Rose since what happened a month ago nor did he want to.
"Hey, I wanted to talk about what happened in an on-call room about a month ago," she said sheepishly.
"There's nothing to talk about," he said before looking back at his screen and continuing his work.
"I kissed you when you were really upset about... that girl, surgeon, mom of that little girl that you're always with," she said looking towards him.
"What did you call her?" He asked as he looked over at her.
"Well, I don't know her name"
"She's been working here for almost three months and you're always watching her even though she's in a coma and you eave drop on me when I talk to her," he said with anger in his voice as he stood up.
"Well, I-"
"No, you don't get to talk about her, she hasn't done anything to you. I don't want to talk to you about something you did, I don't want to be with you Rose. I want to be with Meredith but she's in a coma so things are a little hard sometimes. And that little girl has a name and I don't have to take care of her, I chose to because her fathers an ass and tried killing her mother and her mother is in a coma because of the trauma he caused on her, so you can't say anything about her!" He yelled.
"I-I-I I'm sorry" she stuttered before running away.
He sighed before running his fingers through his hair and sitting back down in his chair. He pressed his face in his hands with his elbows on the desk.
He felt the tears burning in his eyes as he squeezed them closed doing his best not to break into a sob. He hadn't really talked about Meredith to anyone other than Ellis when it was time to go see Meredith or when she would ask about her.
He pushed himself off of the desk before standing up, going over to where his work bag hung before taking his phone out of the pocket and dialling a number.
After the phone call ended he placed his phone into his back pocket. He had called the therapist Addison had recommended to him, he had also called a child therapist for Ellis.
She used to talk to him a bit more before but now that she was also losing hope on Meredith she wasn't talking about it as much, she talked about seeing Meredith and talking to Meredith but she would never talk about whether or not she was going to wake up.
She used to ask if Meredith would wake up soon, but she didn't want anyone to tell her the answer she knew she would get and didn't want someone to confirm her mother would never wake up so she never asked.
He figured it would be best for Ellis to talk to a professional for her to get all her feelings out related them talking to him as he didn't know what was going on inside her head.
He walked out of his office, slamming the door behind him as heads turned to look at the source of the sound, some jumping as well.
He walked down the halls where he eventually found Meredith's room, he looked through the window as she still looked the same as she did a month ago when she fell into a coma. He slowly opened the door and sat down on the chair next to her bed.
He took her hand in his, her hand was small and cold, a few months ago it was small and warm, comforting.
He held her one small hand in both his large hands. He pressed his forehead to the back of her hand as he let his tears fall down his cheeks. Letting it all out as he broke into a sob that he had held in for almost three months. Hiding the feeling he had for her since day one, waiting for the right time to tell her but the time had never come. And now he couldn't tell her because she was close to being dead.
He was shaking as he sobbed so much to where he didn't even notice the small amount of movement underneath him.
He heard a small groan, he opened his eyes and looked down to see Meredith slightly moving. His eyes widened as he watched her eyes flutter open.
"Meredith" he breathed
"Derek" she croaked "what the hell happened?" she said looking around confused, squinting her eyes at the brightness from the sun.
"You were in a coma" he smiled sadly at her still holding her hand as he warmed it with both of his.
"What? For how long?" She asked as she tried sitting up.
"A month" he replied, helping her sit up with one hand on her back and the other on her arm.
"A month? Where's Ellis? Where's my daughter? Is she okay?" She asked as she started to panic.
"Meredith, relax. Ellis is fine she's up in daycare with Ella" he answered as he rubbed her forearm with his hand.
"Who's Ella? Please don't let it be another stupid nurse" she started to cry.
"Ella is Ellis's friend, she's Addison's daughter," he said as she relaxed at his words.
"What am I going to do?" She sobbed
"Hey, everything will be okay" he whispered as he pulled the bars on the side of the bed down climbing into bed with her, holding her in his arms.
She laid her head down on his chest as her body felt weak, weaker than it ever had felt.
"It'll be okay" he whispered kissing her head.
"Why do I look so fat?" She asked as she looked down at her stomach.
He noticed that there was a small bump but that was the last thing on his mind.
"You don't look fat, you look beautiful"
"I just woke up from a coma, and there are too many wires in me" she looked at her arms seeing all the Iv's and wires attached to her as she tried to pull them out.
"Meredith, don't, you need those," he said taking her hand away from the wires and holding it into his.
"I want to go home," she said sadly
"I know, but first we need Ellis to see you and tell people your awake" he smiled as he paged some people.
