Derek and Addison were eating in the cafeteria while Ella and Ellis sat across from them as they talked and ate their food

"They adorable together" Addison smiled

"Yea, I wish Meredith could see them" he smiled sadly

"She will, she'll wake up," Addison said as she rubbed his arm sympathetically

"What am I going to tell Ma?"

"The truth, does she know about Meredith's condition?"

"Yes, she also knows that Meredith is Ellis' mother"

"Don't be scared, she won't be mad"

"I know, I just don't want her going back to New York and telling everyone"

"Derek, she's not Nancy"

"Of course not, but your mother understands in a way, remember your father?"

"Of course I do, but this is completely different"

"Meredith is in a coma, my dad was shot and killed in a place he owned"

"I know, but she knows what it's like to not be with the person you love when you should be"

"yea, but Meredith could still live my dad was dead immediately"

"yes, but she's not awake, she's on a machine to breath"

"don't say too much Ellis doesn't know the whole story especially how Meredith got into a coma"

"yea, that was some scene. thank goodness Ellis wasn't there to see it"

"tea" he sighed thinking about how Meredith lo9oked when he found her

"Daddy, when's mommy gonna wake up?" Ellis asked as she looked up at Derek

"I don't know, sweetie, hopefully soon though," he told her as she nodded and continued eating

"Daddy?" Addison whispered in confusion

"she started it a few days ago, I don't think she really remembers Finn" he whispered back

"she doesn't mention him, Ella asked her earlier where her dad was and she just said that she didn't have one Ella didn't ask about it anymore after that she just nodded and continued playing," Addison told him

"I don't think she really worries about she has Meredith and Meredith really loves her and she knows that so she's okay with just Meredith," he said as he played around with his food

"have you talked to anyone about what you saw?" she asked

"what do you mean?"

"what you saw was something that doesn't go out of your head you should talk to someone about it"

"like who? my mom?" he asked

"no, like a therapist, and maybe Ellis should too"

"a therapist?" he asked a bit shocked

"yes, you both should just so it doesn't turn into something worse" she added

"Addison," he said

"I'm serious Derek, Meredith went through a lot and didn't have anyone to talk to and that led her to do things, she didn't eat, and she cut herself" Addison whispered so Ellis wouldn't hear

"are you trying to say Meredith did this to herself?!" he asked upset

"no Derek-" she started before he got up

"Ellis, do you want to stay with Ella and Addison for a bit longer or do you wanna come with me?" he asked ignoring Addison. he wanted to leave but he didn't want to take Ellis away if she wanted to stay.

"can I stay here a bit longer?" she asked quietly

"yes, of course," he said as he kissed the side of her head before walking away

"Derek," Addison said but Derek continued to walk away and left.

he left the room and started walking down the halls before he was pulled into an on-call room

"what the he-" he said before he felt someone's lips crash onto his

he pulled away to see who it was and when he did he saw it was one of the nurses Rose

"Rose, what the hell are you doing?" he asked as he pushed her away

"I heard your girlfriend was dead so I figured you and I could be something" she smirked before trying to pull his back in by his collar

"what no!" he yelled while pushing her back and leaving the room slamming the door on his way out.

Derek was walking down the hallway of Meredith's room before he got to her room and walked in closing the door behind him. he walked over to where she lay, he set down flowers he bought from the gift store. he say down in the chair next to the bed, he reached out and held her hand in his.

"Meredith, please wake up. I need you and Ellis needs you, I can't do this alone and Ellis keeps asking about you and when you'll wake but I can never tell her a real reason because I don't know either. I want to be with you, I don't know why I didn't say anything before it was probably because I didn't think a completely healthy and alive woman would be in a coma a.. month after I met her, I thought I was going to have more time to think about how I was going to tell you and how I was going to ask you on our first date but... I never got to do any of those things and you can't even hear a word I'm saying" he said as he held back a sob holding her cold hand up to his lips as he placed a small kiss on her fingers before pressing his forehead to the back of her hand.

after he had his time with her and told her all about Ellis and Ella he left the room where he saw his mother standing by the door

"ma.. what are you doing here?" he asked a bit surprised to see her

"I was going to come and talk to you but you stopped at this room again... you really like her don't you?" she asked after a few seconds of silence

"yes... I do" he said as his eyes filled with tears once again and he put his fist to his mouth trying to hide the trembling of his lip

"oh dear, come here," she said as she pulled him in for a hug.

"I don't want her to die" he whispered

"I know you don't," she said rubbing his back.
