Having knowledge stored about people from years ago can always carry nostalgia, especially when looking at the memories; but when a specific person is known to be intelligent, remembrance regarding their existence can hold much positivity. That's how Kuina mostly felt while cleaning her apartment one dark evening. She couldn't believe she remembered everything about that woman, her woman. From the numerous late-night conversations they had to when they had their last one ever, which was on a cute stargazing date. However, Kuina's quiet yet mentally loud thoughts were quickly shoved aside once she heard a faint knock on her front door.
Kuina stopped vacuuming around her small, carpeted living room before she started talking; "Who is it?"
The person behind the door knocked again, not wanting to speak. Their simple action invoked irritation from Kuina as she almost sparked herself with how annoying this person could be. But after she opened the door, she realized who they were. Well, who she was.
Ann Rizuna stood in front of Kuina's doorway with her still-recognizable face. Her familiar bob was still on her head but now she sported a pair of glasses on her head too, "Hello, Kuina."
Kuina almost busted into tears at the sight of her former girlfriend. She couldn't believe the woman was there, right in front of her. Kuina dropped the vacuum in her hands before pulling Ann into a big hug.
She spoke through muffled tears, "Ann, it's been so long...where've you been?!"
The woman patted her former bestie with love laced on every finger, "Working, studying, everything in the middle."
Kuina tilted her head up from Ann's chest, "...And how did you know where I lived?"
"Remember our last date night when we went stargazing? You told me where to find you, which was...here."
~ FLASHBACK ~
Ann and Kuina sat on the edge of a roof, holding small bottles of water while admiring the stars in the solar system. They knew tonight could be their last night together, so they tried to make it memorable at least.
Kuina directed her attention from above to right next to her, "Ann, if I disappear...I just want to tell you how amazing you've been to me. You deserve a lot more than you're given credit for, and I'm gonna miss you once we escape this mess."
Ann laughed, "I'm gonna miss you too, Ku. And when we do get out, if we do, where can I find you?"
"If I choose not to move, then find me...there." Kuina pointed across the area, straight toward an abandoned apartment complex; "That's where I live, in one of those."
~ END OF FLASHBACK ~
Kuina hugged Ann a bit tighter, "...You remembered?"
Ann smiled, "Why would I forget, Kuina? This is you we're talking about. But can I come in? It's cold and I'm a bit thirsty."
After separating her body from the woman, Kuina welcomed Ann into her apartment. She picked up her vacuum and shoved it into her closet before grabbing a few glasses from her kitchen cupboard.
Kuina filled the cups with water before finding Ann comfortably on her couch, "Here, Ann."
She thankfully took the other cup and nodded before taking a sip, "So...how've you been ever since we got back to normal Tokyo?"
Kuina sat next to Ann, "I've been okay, just getting readjusted to everything. How's your job at the..."
Ann chuckled, "The police station?"
Kuina nodded, smiling sheepishly while rubbing the back of her neck with one hand and holding her cup in the other; "Yeah, your job there."
"Well, it's been hectic per usual. I just run fingerprints, analyze them, and then register them to the system, that's all. What about you?"
Kuina sipped from her cup, "I've been working on my martial arts while being a clerk. At least I get discounts and free clothes."

After a long conversation about numerous topics, Kuina was in her small kitchenette, making one of her favorite dishes for her and Ann (which was sukiyaki, Japanese hot pot). She put together some thin beef slices, noodles, and vegetables into a simmering broth and let it boil before taking it off the stove and placing it onto her coffee table. Once Kuina handed her a pair of chopsticks, a bowl, and a spoon, Ann scooped some of the sukiyaki into her bowl and started to quietly eat. The other woman followed suit, gathering some of the delicacies into her bowl and eating right away.
Kuina spoke with a mouthful of food, "Remember when you promised to give me a pack of real cigarettes once we saw each other again?"
~ ANOTHER FLASHBACK ~
Smoking was prohibited, even in a hellhole such as the Beach. But even with the rule set in place, people still found a curve around it and resorted to using fake cigarettes. They did the job—for the moment at least. Even though Kuina wasn't an avid smoker like the majority of them, she found herself stashing some away for when she was stressed out of her mind. Until...Ann found her with one on the edge of her mouth.
"Kuina, what the hell are these..."
She turned around and leaned on the edge of a balcony, "Fictional cigarettes. Want one?"
Ann shook her head with crossed arms, "But you should be careful about using those, Ku. It doesn't matter if they're not real cigarettes, they can still cause some damage."
Kuina giggled, "Don't you think I know that?"
Ann rolled her eyes before joining Kuina on the edge of the balcony and nudging her arm, "Clearly not. But I might buy you some once we escape here, only if and when we see each other...again."
~ END OF FLASHBACK ~
Ann reached behind herself and unzipped her backpack to reveal a pack of cigarettes, "Speaking of that..." She tossed a pack at Kuina, "Merry Christmas."
