"Did you see what was on your ball?" I nervously asked Jay twiddling my fingers behind my back.
He looked a bit put off by the question since he stopped stuffing his books in his locker and looked at me puzzled.
"Psh that,forget about it."He scoffed.
I felt my eyes open up wider ten times the size of Marinette's from Miraculous:Tales of ladybug and Cat Noir,if you've seen it.
My eyes gradually narrowed down morphing into sad hurt eyes when the words sunk in.
" Um?"I asked for clarification not quite believing what I had heard. My heart gave little thumps dreading my worst fear.
"Yeah,it's nothing to get psyched about." He clarified.
"I've got to get to class." I mumbled turning my back to him.I didn't want him to realise how disappointed I was by his apparent rejection. Did he need to be utterly blunt?
I bit my lower lip to fight back the tears threatening to fall and made my way to my English class.
I scanned the room and found Harry and Rachel huddled in a corner with open literature books. It was obvious they weren't reading but you could see them with their fat books open ready to snap their attention back to it if they were ever caught conversing.
The teacher had his attention on his laptop seeing the class wasn't supposed to begin until six minutes later.I greeted him and after receiving a nod found my way to my friends.
"How did it go?" Harry asked enthusiastically basically trying not to bounce up from her chair.
"Not so well I guess." I mumbled slipping in beside them.I unzipped my bag and after fishing out my textbook, slammed it open on the table.
"What do you mean by not so well." Harry threaded carefully.
".......Like he just told me it was no big deal." I explained to Rachel and Harry as they looked at me with wide eyes.
"Are you sure that you were both on the same page?" Harry probed.
I nodded,"Yeah."
"Well then,I think I must have a little chat with him." Rachel declared.
"What! No." I gasped receiving a look from the teacher who had shifted his attention from his laptop to our little group at the back of the filling up classroom. I quickly buried my gaze in my book in embarrassment
After sometime Rachel grinned,
"Wuss, I'm not going to rip your world's heart out.We are just going to have a harmless little chat."
I looked at Harry for support.
"I'll talk to him instead." Harry suggested.I sighed in relief mouthing her a thank you.
Knowing Rachel, she would let tempers rise if she spoke to Jay.
"Softies." Rachel smirked as the teacher got up to start his lesson.
During Biology the next day, Jay kept on stealing glances at me after Harry and Rachel had spoken to him.Don't ask me why Rachel still tagged along to speak with him.
I ignored his stares and focused the lens on the soil sample in front of me.
"What's wrong with you?" Rachel glared at me as soon as she was near talking distance.
"Me!" I asked nearly dropping the boiling test tube in my hands.
"Yes,you." She hissed.
"Oh,"
"Jay never saw what you wrote. He only saw a black smudge on his ball and cleaned it up. Big deal,is it?" Rachel lashed throwing her arms up in the air .
For a moment, I thought that she was going to shove the thermometer in her hand down my throat.
"You didn't tell him what I wrote on it did you?"I asked removing my safety goggles.
"Nope, You'll have to tell him when you want to."Harry said with an encouraging smile.
