My phone chimed in my hands and I eagerly looked down on its screen.Good, Rachel had replied.I shot a text back to her right away.
Me : Where re you?
Rachel : Chilling with some shirtless guys.
An inside part of me sighed in relief though, knowing that she was safe chilling with some other friends. Not drunk off her head somewhere. . .
Me : Sweet.
Me : Wish I was having that sorta fun!
Rachel : Where is lover boy? Isn't he supposed to be with you?
Me : Somewhere around Mabel, she's not letting go off him!
Rachel : Steal him back, it's easy.
I gave a pout scanning over the text ,my eyes lighting up with the next.
Rachel : Lolz
Rachel : Will be there in a few!
I sighed in boredom looking around my surroundings and drumming my fingers gently on the seat of the couch.
I spun my head to the side trying to catch hold of Rachel from whichever direction she emerged. My searching eyes landed on a blonde haired boy standing at the far end of the room,a drink bottle in his hands.I drifted my gaze away but he continued staring my way,a creepy expression on his face, like he knew me from somewhere. He looked like someone I'd seen though.
I run a quick test in my mind trying to place the face somewhere, nothing came out of it.Maybe I'd seen him somewhere at school?
My attention was drawn from pondering over him when the cushions on the couch dipped beneath me.
"Hey Rach,"I beamed up at her.
"Hey Sweetie."She smiled wrapping me in a hug.
The tip of her braids brushed against my cheek and I felt a certain wetness to it.
"Um, your hair's wet."I commented.
I felt Rachel stiffen in the hug letting out a whimper.
"Smells like chlorine , swimming pool water."I elaborated.
She broke away from the hug and run her fingers through the air.
"I thought I tied it back. Well,I guess a few strands went loose."She sighed wearing a look of disappointment.
"Don't worry,it will dry out." I consoled taking a look at Rachel who had her eyes buried in her phone.
She quickly stuffed her phone in her back pocket and rose up.
"Jackson says there's a game going on upstairs, let's go have some fun."She urged pulling me from the couch.
"But, they're a bunch of strangers,We can't randomly barge in on them playing around."I complained as she dragged me along.
"You'll know me and Jackson."She accused staring blankly at me. Jackson was her friend from one of her classes at school.
I tried many of such excuses but I still found myself two minutes later standing at the door to one of the rooms in the house.
"Good, seems they've not started yet."She beamed pushing the door open.
My eyes scanned the dimly lit room, giving Jackson a friendly wave before my eyes rested on Jay who sat absentmindedly on the floor scrolling through his phone.
Mabel sat beside him , a determined look on her face making me wonder what was up her.
