"Milly you'll do the wheels with silver okay?"Mike directed fishing out a grey Crayola from his art pouch and pointing it at my face.
"Um this is grey, you got the wrong colour."I smiled at him.
"Here."He smiled picking the silver Crayola and staring up at me with a smile on his face.
"Good boy."I nodded patting his hair and proceeding to do the wheels of his lightening McQueen printout.
I lightly started applying strokes of silver to the wheels of the half finished picture and he carefully watched over my work to ascertain I was doing as he'd instructed.
After scrutinizing my work for some time and realising I was doing the right thing,he went back to colouring the body of the car a deep red.
We were done with the colouring in a few minutes and he looked down at his masterpiece proudly.
Placing it to the side,he took out a fresh piece of coloured paper and I folded it into two equal halves for him as he suggested. He kept me in suspense as to what he was making. His Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich lay long forgotten as he worked tirelessly on his art making sure to continuously glance at me to see if I as peeping.
He proudly put his art tools away for a moment and thrust the card at my face for a proof read.
I smiled at the mere gesture, loving the way he connected with his big brother.
"Is everything spelt correctly? Spelling congratulations was difficult." He spilled looking at me with cute blue eyes.
I raked my eyes over what he'd written on the card once again again.
CoNgratulaTions Jakey,For winnIng The big Game. You're a WINNer!
I love you.
It read.Nothing was misspelt. He only mixed up capital letters in his text. The spelling was on point though.I made a mental note to take him through a lesson on capitalization later on.
"Jake is winning today's game Milly, isn't he? Isn't he?"Mike asked jumping up from his chair in excitement.
"Yes sweetie,he will. Then you can present to him your wonderful work of art when he comes home."I encouraged making him loll back and forth in the chair.
"Now eat up your sandwich before Swiper swipes it all."I joked making reference to Swiper from the animation Dora The Explorer.
Hearing that,he bit into his sandwich and munched away on it gladly enjoying himself.
We played some more games and finally settled on watching binge watching Paw Patrol.
The door bell rang in our eighth episode and Mike sprang to his feet, expecting to see his brother smiling behind the door with his sports bag flung on his shoulder.
I expected excited screams and Jay riling himself up ,the usual after each game they won but that was not so.I met deafening silence and rushed to the door to see if everything was okay.
Ridgewood High's basketball team was not as strong as ours,so there was no way they could have made it to the semi finals kicking us out.
It had to be something else,I thought rushing to the door. The colour drained off my face just as Mike rushed to me and hugged my legs tightly, his eyes full to the brim with unshed tears.Mine was filled with questionable shock.
Gathering some little strength in me I opened the door wider and let the boys help Jay in.
He leaned on Fahd as his leg was seemingly was in a cast.Eric who had Jay's gym bag and car keys handed it over.
