"I honestly find it surprising he ratted out on me like that.I specifically told him not to mention what happened in the confines of our kitchen the last time."Jay chuckled leaning against the locker next to mine as I picked out the books I'd be needing for my next lesson.

"C'mon, I'd figure it out anyway, there was a lot of soot on his shirt and in his hair. That was a complete give away."I laughed defending Michael.

Apparently, few hours after I went over to Jay's to babysit Michael last week, they'd cooked up the idea of baking me a little treat  just as a little surprise to show how seriously Michael was taking his cooking lessons.

That plan backfired few minutes later after Jay left the oven on the wrong temperature and Michael had his own way greasing the tray with vegetable cooking oil.

"It's not my fault everything I put on heat tends to burn,I swear that oven thing hates me."He implored nodding vehemently to support his protest, a light frown creasing his well sculptured face.

My lips curved into a smile and I burst into gales of laughter. His frown immediately disappeared from his face and his  blue eyes danced with  pleasure watching me laugh,as if my laughter was a melodious remedy radiating through his every core.

Our friendship had picked up from right where we left it, but it was an extra mile better now.We spoke more often at school and teasing each other at the least opportunity was our daily mantra. We'd even started sneaking glances at one another in class, just to check up on the other. We both embraced it with open arms enjoying each others company. Not what I quite wanted, but enjoying the moment.

"How do you do it though?"He asked gently scanning my face , waiting for an answer.

"I've been baking for a while now, it's something you can learn but  ace if you've got the skills.More like how you play basketball ,you get better with practice. But with you,I honestly think you've got skills Jay,and there's no two ways about that."I  confessed looking up at him with quiet eyes,my face beginning to heat up once I'd realised I had just delivered to him a straight full compliment.

His eyes scanned mine for sometime before a gentle smile played at his lips, the iris of his eyes going a brighter shade as he gazed longingly at me.He reached for my hand and gave it a light squeeze.

"Coming from you that actually means a lot ."He confessed closing the little distance between us and pressing his lips at the tip of my forehead leaving a tingling sensation on my skin.A swarm of butterflies descended in my belly and this caused a light blush to creep up on my cheeks.

"See you after class?"He asked taking a glance at his wrist watch.

"Yeah, see you."I waved as he turned his back on me.

I turned back to my locker and after getting the right books set out for my next class, Biology.

Harry was seated already when I arrived and she waved me over to the empty seat beside her.

"Thanks,"I said slipping down on the chair.

She waved it off with an anytime and I nodded pulling out my textbook from my bag.

Almost simultaneously ,our phones chimed sending us looking at our phone screens.I swiped the message off my homescreen, and continued with my  arithmetic assignment unbothered by the party invite, I'd just box her a hand knitted scarf and apologize for getting the time wrong. There,a full proof way to avoid an angsty teen party.I thought lightly to myself watching the teacher with a bunch of other guys in the class mount a projector to start his lesson.

The lesson rolled by quickly and I sat in the cafeteria with Harry and Rachel, each enjoying our meals.

"Did you guys receive the invite to Mabel's eighteenth birthday bash?", Rachel asked shoving her illuminated phone screen at our faces.

"Um,yeah. But I won't be able to make it,date night.Sorry."Harry excused herself with an apologetic smile stressing the syllables of her sorry.

Rachel turned her gaze to me giving me a hopeful look.

"Oh, don't look at me like that, I'm sure it will be fun but I've got homework to finish."I shrugged.

"Like I'll believe you, your homeworks are always done before time, come up with a better one."She accused sabotaging my carefully constructed excuse.

Honestly,I wasn't really looking forward to dolling up and going to some hormonal teen party,I just wanted to kick back, relax and netflix.

"Come on Camilla! It will be fun."She encouraged holding onto my arm.

"Pretty pretty please with a little cherry on top."She begged pouting her lips and resting her head against my shoulder.

I looked up from my food to talk sense into her when my  gaze fell on the guys who were walking towards us with their trays of food.In less than a twinkle of an eye, they had  arrived at our table and slipped in comfortably beside us.

After exchanging pleasantries with our two jock friends, Rachel decided to change tactic, playing along the lines of my feelings for Jay.

"Yo Jake, you coming along for Mabel's birthday bash tonight?"

"I don't know,I have a match to review. . ." Jay started but was cut short by Rachel.

"Well,Camilla's coming." She said sweetly staring at me with innocent mischievous eyes.

I opened my mouth to point out my stand when Jay spoke, changing my mind that instant. He had a way of affecting my desicions which amused me to every core.

"Guess the match can wait."Jay stated staring at me with warm mischievous eyes.

"Wouldn't want her merry self kissing some bloke dude out there in the open, would we?"He teased a serious smirk turning up the corners of his lips.

I flushed a light shade of red before covering my face with my hands,to cool things down and meet him with a sturdy gaze.

"Jake Greene, you're soo dead ."I playfully warned causing him to burst into a soft ripple of laughter. His laughter was clear and contagious with a sexy edge to it.I lustfully wondered which other sounds he could make, not helping my blushing situation,I know.
My insides welled up with pride seeing his face strewn with delight by something I had said.

"Cough ,cough, someone's getting defensive."Fahd teased as Harry stuffed his mouth with fries to keep it shut as a form of retribution for pulling my leg.

"Aww, don't you love me."He coed in a baby voice swallowing the food after mastication and placing a gentle kiss on Harry's cheek.Crimson colouring appeared on her cheeks and she wrapped her hands around Fahd's neck burying her face in his chest,a form of mock shyness.

"Ugh,get a room you guys.Your love things are sickening ."Rachel joked picking up her lunch tray and phone.

"Catch you guys later."She  waved walking towards the bin to empty her tray and out she went through the large gates out of the cafeteria to her next class.

Fahd left soon after to walk Harry to her next class leaving Jay and I alone, like what had been happening these past few weeks.

I wasn't a slow eater per say,I just preferred taking my time going about it.It made me wonder why Jay still remained seated with me though it was obvious he could finish the little left in his tray within a matter of minutes.

We remained seated in peaceful silence, occasionally stealing glances at one another between mouthfuls and acting nonchalant about the whole thing.

Soon than enough,I had stuffed myself full and looked up at Jay to see if he was done with his, unbelievably he was done too,as usual, and offered we walk to our next class together.
