Author's note:

Hello loves,

Thanks for your patience this week. A busy work week meant I was a little delayed in getting the chapter out. Apologies in advance for any errors - was trying to get this published quickly.

Trigger warning: there is a domestic violence scene in this chapter.
Smut Warning:  There's also a little 🔞moment at the end.

Really hope you're enjoying this version of Eda and Serkan. I'm having fun exploring their personalities and feelings at this age.

Don't forget to vote and leave me a comment sharing your favourite moment from Chapter 3.

Hope you're all staying healthy.

Love,
Ames

Eda looks over to Serkan and offers him a contended smile. Holding each other's gaze, an unspoken commitment runs between them as she whispers.

"I told you we would be best friends, Serkan Bolat."

Seven years fly by, and the whole world comes to understand that where you find Eda Yildiz, you'll always find Serkan Bolat. And if you're dumb enough to mess with Eda Yildiz, you better start running.

Serkan found the fire in his belly the day he stood up to Dennis. The loner who had done everything up to the age of seven to stay invisible suddenly transformed into a lion.

Eda gave him something to fight for, someone to be stronger for.

He quickly became the muscle in Eda's crusade against injustice. Although a strong, fierce little girl, who could more than hold her own – Serkan's devotion to his best friend meant that he never let her take the inevitable punches.

Over the years, there were many calls from the Principal's office to the Bolat/Yildiz mothers, requesting that they come to collect their wayward children.

"Don't make me separate you two!" Elif scolds after another such incident, her frustrated eyes flicking to the backseat yet again.

"But..."

"Eda, no! I won't hear another word. I can assure you that I understand that the "they deserved it" – they always do, darling. But I won't have you get Serkan into trouble again. He is about to go to high school, and I don't want him going in with a reputation for fighting!"

The reminder that Serkan will be leaving her soon for high school makes Eda scowl.

"Mrs. Yildiz, I promise, it wasn't Eda," Serkan quickly interjects. "Brad has had that punch in the face coming since Elementary School, and picking on Charles like that was wrong," explains the now lanky, fourteen-year-old.

Elif sighs, knowing there's no point arguing with them. They're as thick as thieves and have each other's backs, unconditionally. She draws in a deep breath, considering a different approach.

"Eda," she starts softly, "Your daddy has always taught you to stand up to injustice...and we're so proud of you for taking that to heart, with your whole heart. But my love, what your dear, idealist of a father forgot to tell you is, that...this is a never-ending quest. He's still not done after all these years! I just wonder if, sometimes, it might be worthwhile picking your battles rather than fighting them all?"

Eda purses her lips and nods somberly, looking down at her hands fidgeting in her lap. Silence hangs in the air as she internalizes her mother's words.
