Updated Note:

A massive thanks to Jules who after reading this chapter, sent me this song by Citizen Cope.

The lyrics, the mood fit Edser's pain so perfectly that I had to update the chapter to include it!

If you have any other song suggestions, send them through - I love seeing how you connect with Edser...and who knows, it might give me inspo to write the next chapter!

Love,
Ames

Lyrics:
You know it ain't easy
For these thoughts here to leave me
There's no words to describe itIn French or in English
Well, diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloomAnd I'm telling you
These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
They've been knockin' me out lately
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won't go away
 They've been knockin' me sideways
I keep thinking in a moment thatTime will take them away
But these feelings won't go away

Author's note:

Hi loves,

Hands up if you thought you'd get another chapter so soon, huh? Normally it's 17 years between posts for me, but I'm so excited to share what happens with our Edser babes.

🚨Warning: There's a little smut in here and a whole lotta swearing. Please read at your own risk. Also, this chapter takes us to Operation Retrograde, so there is some military action included.🚨

Don't forget to vote, and comment!

Love,
Ames

"Oh! How wonderful! I'm also from New York - what a small world! Would you like to have coffee with me this morning?" The fellow American offers as Eda quickly checks her watch.

She has time before she has to be back at the hospital.

"That would be really lovely," Eda agrees, nodding towards the empty seat. "I'm Eda."

The brunette smiles, accepting Eda's outstretched hand to shake.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Eda. My name is Alessandra."

Months pass - June

Eda looks around her Marais apartment for the last time. The accoutrement and trinkets that made the house a home are packed in her suitcases by the door, leaving the walls and shelves ready for the next person to curate their life against.

It feels like she was arriving yesterday - her heart shattered, trying to put the pieces of her life back together.

Her phone dings, and two messages await. One group message from Eren and Melo confirming that they'll be at JFK to collect her, and a message from Alessandra. Eda smiles, opening the text.

"Girl, cannot wait to see you when you're settled next week. Would love to take you for a Welcome Back dinner! Let me know what day works for you. Kisses!"

"Me too! 😘" Eda quickly replies, slipping her phone back into her Saint Laurent camera bag. Her new friendship with Alessandra feels serendipitous, having met halfway across the world from their original hometown, only to find they have so much in common.

She sighs, her heart feeling full for the first time in a long time.

What a four and half years she's had here in Paris. She's worked so hard - returning to NYC to finish the final year of her critical care surgical specialization. When she starts at New York Presbyterian Hospital in a few weeks, she'll be, at age twenty-nine, one of the youngest trauma surgeons in the United States.
