Ryan pov
A sunny July morning. Brendon is drinking coffee in the garden and I am secretly preparing a picnic basket for him. The number "23" has come up a lot in my dreams, so I chose July 23 as the date of our engagement.
When everything is packed in the car, I look into the garden.
- Honey, I have a surprise for you. - I announce, and B looks at me curiously.
- A surprise? - He's surprised.
- Yes, get dressed. I'm taking you to a beautiful place. - I say and disappear into the house.
I put on my best pants and best t-shirt, already chosen. Brendon looks through the contents of his closet for a few minutes, unable to decide. Eventually he chooses light jeans and a white t-shirt, and white sneakers to go with it.
- I'm ready. We can go, Ryan. - He smiles at me.
We leave the house, get into my Pontiac and drive. After about an hour we stop at a roadside parking lot.
- We continue on foot. - I announce and get out.
I pull out a picnic basket from the trunk. Bden looks at me carefully.
- A picnic? You took me on a picnic? - he asks.
- Yes - I reply and grab his hand. - You're about to see a very special place - I add and lead him along a narrow forest path.
- A field of sunflowers? - B remarks when the path ends.
- Yes, but not only - I point at a table with two chairs.
- Is this all for me? You are wonderful, Ryan! - B throws himself around my neck and kisses me.
- Of course, baby. - I return the kiss. - And the surprises don't end there - I say and set the basket down.
I pull out a salad with tomatoes from my uncle in Mexico, fruit skewers, two glasses and a non-alcoholic champagne with a hint of orange and peach and edible glitter. As we sit at the table, we chat and joke. I feed Brendon some fruit. It's really nice.
- Ryan, can I ask you something? - Bden suddenly changes the subject.
- Sure, honey - I reply and take a sip of my drink.
- Is this picnic for a special occasion or did you just want to spend time with me outside? - he asks.
- You know... There is an occasion. - I say and give a subtle sign to Jake that he can get his camera ready. - B, we've known each other for so long and I love you so much, so I thought it would be a good time to take the next step. - I pull the engagement ring box out of my pocket and get down on one knee. - Brendon Boyd Urie, will you marry me? - the most important question is asked.
- Yes, of course I will, Ryan! - B leans out of his chair, pulls my head in and kisses me.
After a long and passionate kiss, we pull away from each other. I grab Brendon's hand and place the shiny ring on his finger. We both rise to a standing position. I hug Bden tightly and kiss him again. Jake emerges from hiding with his camera.
- Congratulations! - he says and walks over to us.
- Jake? - B is surprised. - What are you doing here? This... This was planned? Did you know?
- Yes, Brendon. Ryan asked me. - Jake answers. - He also asked me to do your engagement session. We can do it now, and then you can have time to yourselves. What do you think?
- Perfect - B agrees. - Where should we set up?- - -
The photo shoot with Jake took us about half an hour. Chams said he had never seen such a perfect couple that he worked so well with. He promised to send the processed photos within a week.
- Today is so wonderful... - says Bden, holding my hand.
- Yes, B. It's perfect. - I kiss him. - Remember at Z's wedding when you asked about our wedding? - I ask, and Brendon nods. - I've been thinking about it a lot, you know, where and when and everything. - I continue. - I'd like our wedding to take place on the beach, the decorations to be mostly sunflowers... and we'd dance until the sun came up.
- Me too, Ryan. Me too. - he agrees. - It's gonna be a very romantic ceremony. Just us, our loved ones...
- Have you thought about when? - I ask, looking in my head for all the Fridays or Saturdays that fall on the 23rd of the month. "23" is our lucky number.
- Maybe late summer? You know, August or September. - He suggests.
- But this year, next year, or even later? - I stare at him.
- Do you think they have any free day this year? I don't want to wait any longer, Ryan. I love you and I really want to be your husband already. - he answers.
- I think they will find something. - I counter. - We'll go to the registry office on Monday and ask, okay?
- Okay - he kisses me again.
I smile. I am really happy.- - -
Monday morning Brendon and I head to the registry office to book our wedding date. The nice clerk finds Friday, September 23, free for us. This means that the wedding is less than two months away. We then work out the details, as the ceremony will be on the beach and not in a registry office. We also indicate that we will write our own vow words and they will be submitted in a timely manner.
When everything is settled in the registry office, we go to our favorite restaurant to order the catering. We spend over 3 hours choosing the menu, and another two hours in the cake shop before we decide what kind of wedding cake we want.
Exhausted, we return home, where we spend another hour deciding what to do tomorrow.- - -
Tuesday
First thing in the morning we get an email from Jake with pictures from the engagement. We pick out our favorites and ask Chams to do personalized wedding invitations for us. After lunch we head to the stores in search of the perfect decorations. We order sunflowers from a local florist. Then we pick out some other accessories, and lighting. Zack has rented us a piece of beach, away from people, which will be covered on the sides with an LED curtain. We also managed to get a frame for the wedding arch, the main ceremony place, which we will decorate with sunflowers and white brocade organza. I can already imagine how beautiful this place will look.... But still, the most beautiful and important in that day will be Brendon, my love.- - -
Friday
We head to Vegas to personally hand out invitations to Brendon's family. Our first priority is to visit his parents.
- Your loved ones are sure to be happy. - I say, pulling into the driveway in front of Mr. and Mrs. Urie's house.
- Our loved ones, Ryan. Our. The wedding is just a formality, you're like family to us already. - B answers and smiles at me.
We get out and walk to the door. B's mom must have seen us already because before Brendon can raise his hand to knock, the door opens.
- My dears, how good to see you! - She lets us in and gives us a hug.
- We've come with happy news. Call Dad. - says Bden.
- Boyd, our Brenny has arrived with Ryan. They want to tell us something - Mrs. Urie calls out, and Mr. Urie appears in the living room a moment later.
- We're getting married - announces B right away, and hands the parents an invitation.
- The wedding is in September. - I add.
- So soon? - Bden's father is surprised.
- Yes, we don't want to wait any longer. - Brendon replies and kisses me.
- I understand you. Your father and I had only known each other for a short time when we decided to get married, and you and Ryan have known each other for almost 18 years. - Mrs. Urie laughs and kisses her husband.
- They're cute, aren't they? - Brendon looks at me.
- Definitely. Are we going to be like that in a decade or so? - I ask.
- So in love? Definitely - B smacks my cheek.
We eat dinner with Bden's parents and then go to visit his siblings. They all react enthusiastically to the news of our wedding.
In the evening we visit Spencer and Linda, as Spencer will be our best man of honor. Then we check in with Zack and Kala, as I have a special assignment for Zack - to assist Chams in capturing the ceremony. At the very end we look in on Dillon, who will be the second best man of honor.
We send invitations to the rest of our relatives and friends by mail. Those who also will be our best men get a small gift from us in addition to the invitations.
When we get home we tick off another item on the list. Almost everything is ready for our wedding.
