It was Sunday. It had been about two weeks since Y/N had been locked up in this building. She had to be honest. Y/N didn't really mind being there with Zhongli. It was almost fun. They stayed up watching Netflix together, talked for ages, ate together and the best part was that Y/N didn't have to worry about anything school-related. Homework, tests, and studying were all thrown out the window. One thing Y/N was anxious about, however, were her friends. She had no idea what they were doing or if anyone was looking for her. She had been missing for a while, after all. She tried to push this aside and tried to enjoy this new life. Unfortunately, she hadn't been able to gather any more clues to add to her list.
Y/N and Zhongli were eating dinner that Sunday when Zhongli stated blankly, 'You need to start going back to school.' Zhongli himself was still going to teach, returning to associate with the girl, but Y/N hadn't stepped foot outside since she got there.
'Why?'
'Well... People are starting to notice your absence. Your parents are worried about you, naturally, so...'
That's true. What's everyone doing right now? How are my friends? Is Childe doing okay?
'So, you should start going to school from tomorrow.'
'What about my school stuff? My uniform? What will I tell everyone? There's so much -'
'Don't worry about that.'
'... Okay, then. Wait, where's my phone?'
'Ah, I tossed that away somewhere.'
'Oh.' Y/N felt irritated and annoyed that he had so carelessly tossed away something she valued so much. But thinking about it would simply make it worse, so she ended the conversation there.
Y/N didn't know what else to say. She knew that Zhongli knew that she could easily tell anyone about what was happening when she went to school. Just casually. But that would be too easy.
'.... Zhongli?'
'Yes, darling?'
'What if I tell someone what you're doing?'
Zhongli stayed silent for a second, then brought Y/N's face to his lips and kissed her on the forehead gently. 'You don't want to know. I can do so much to you and who you love, Y/N. You don't know how much control I have.'
'Okay.'
The day ended.

The next morning, Y/N was woken up at 7 am and she got ready for school. Zhongli got ready with her and the two set off. Zhongli hired a taxi and both of them climbed in as the man directed the driver where to go. Y/N didn't have her schoolbag with her, just a pen or two. She didn't have any of her books and she worried about the whole thing on the way. 'It's fine, I talked it out,' Zhongli had said, but Y/N wasn't reassured.
Y/N tried to squint out the windows, seeing where she had been for so long, but they were tinted surprisingly harshly - like they'd been painted black. Zhongli noticed this and clasped the girl to his chest like she was a young child. 'We're almost there.'
When at last they arrived at the school gates, Zhongli got out of the car with Y/N and looked at her. 'Go the other way. Pretend we've never met; pretend we haven't seen each other for those two weeks. You know the consequences. Now go.'
Y/N just silently nodded, not really knowing what else to do. She strolled down to the gates, looking down at her uniform. It was clean and new and her exact size, who knew why and how Zhongli had that just for her, but Y/N felt too nervous at the idea of going to school again for her to care too much.
Y/N looked at the timetable that Zhongli had given her. First was Maths. Great.
Y/N casually walked into class. Surprisingly, no one stared at her or whispered loudly. Her classmates just looked anywhere but at her, looking disappointed, almost. I've been gone for ages! Does no one really care? Wait... where's Childe?
Y/N's eyes darted around the classroom, but she still couldn't find him. Zhongli entered the classroom and began teaching, as usual, telling Y/N to catch up with her missed lessons. Childe didn't show for the rest of the lesson, or the next one. At break time the girl rushed to see her other friends. The only people who were there were Lumine and Hu Tao. Everyone else was seemingly gone. Y/N rushed to meet them. 'Where is everyone? What happened?'
As she got a closer look at the two girls, she realised something. Lumine's skin was dull, and she had eyebags, denoting a lack of sleep. Hu Tao didn't seem as lively anymore; her eyes were bare and lifeless.
Lumine's eyes widened with shock as Y/N came over to them and Hu Tao looked away. 'Y/N, what are you saying? You were - you were gone because of the grief too, right?'
'Grief?'
'That's why everyone's gone. His death was so sudden...'
Lumine looked down anxiously as Hu Tao hugged her. 'It's - okay, it's going to be okay - Lumine, don't cry, please -' But Hu Tao's eyes had already sprung tears themselves.
Y/N felt shock travel through her body.
'Death? Whose death?'
'Are you okay, Y/N? Don't you... remember what happened? It - I just -'
Hu Tao looked up at Y/N, staring stiffly at the girl.
'Venti's dead.'
