Katya couldn't explain why she was being nice. She had told herself that it was good that Trixie still seemed angry, and yet here she was trying to make the girl smile again. It was a bad idea and she knew it. Nothing would be better from befriending Trixie again.
And yet it was somehow worth it.
When Trixie smiled it was all worth it.Her beauty had grown so much. Her visual was reminiscent of that of a doll, her body like the Goddesses of old, and Katya felt completely mesmerized. This girl could break down the defenses that the Resvyan girl had spent years putting up, and that fact terrified Katya. She wanted to hold back, but she kept making conversation, wanting deep within to truly get to know her childhood friend again.
"I missed your letters." Katya told the Princess.
"I might have written another had I known that you had changed your mind." Trixie replied.
"I missed the photographs that came with them too, but I somehow think that even the most recent photograph of you couldn't ever live up to seeing your beauty in real life."
Why was she flirting?
She knew the consequences of this marriage taking place, knew that the truth would come out and that the girl would some day start to hate her.
So why was she trying to flirt?"Thank you... I must be honest, I would never have imagined you saying that. You've grown well too. You're quite pretty... or well.. handsome." Trixie said, her blush deepening.
Katya found it interesting that the girl's first choice had been to call her pretty, and she found herself wondering if there was some way that the young Princess could know. But she dismissed the thought, knowing that there was no way the Princess would be accepting of her advances had she known the truth.
"Thank you. I would have sent my photographs, but I'm awful at writing letters." Katya said with a little laugh.
"You're just bad at communicating overall." The other girl quipped, a sweet giggle escaping her.
"Touché."
Katya liked this, she realized, liked joking and laughing with Trixie, liked the feeling of having her childhood friend back. But it was a risky game, growing attached again when the happiness would likely be so short-lived. And yet, she couldn't help herself when she saw the joyful expression of the beauty in front of her.
"How is everything at the castle?" Trixie asked.
"Not much has changed, other than the ball decorations already being up of course."
Katya's mother had insisted on hosting a ball that very night, a celebration of their arriving neighbors from the West, she had called it. Katya herself thought that she would have hated it if she had to attend a ball right after traveling, and was pleasantly surprised to hear that Trixie thought the same.
"Oh that... Yes, I can not say I look forward to it. I would much rather have preferred going to bed early tonight, or going for a ride along the shore. Oh... apologies for my bluntness, I'm sure the Queen worked hard on the preparations for it."
"Not at all, I tried telling her it would be too stressful for you. I'm sorry you won't get the calm arrival day you had hoped for. I'd happily go for a ride with you tomorrow morning though, if that would be to your liking?" Katya suggested.
For some reason she found herself desperate to spend more time in the presence of the Princess, and eagerly jumped at any chance to do so. Beatrice's smile widened at the idea, leaning forward slightly in her seat. Katya would have loved to say that she didn't let her eyes wander, but she just couldn't keep her gaze from falling to the girl's breasts. Like perfectly round apples they peaked out from the top of her dress, and Katya had to hold her hand firmly against the seat of the carriage in order to not reach for them.
"Can we go at sunrise?" The girl asked excitedly.
"Uh.. uhm yes, yes of course we can." Katya replied, pulling herself back to reality.
She needed to control herself, hold herself back, otherwise she'd reveal her secret too soon. For so long she had protected it for the sake of her parents, but now she instead felt a need to protect the lie in order to stay in the good graces of the Princess for a few weeks more.
Even though she'd never feel the woman's skin against her own in the way she most desired, she wanted to at least know what it was like to be liked by Trixie, perhaps even loved. It was selfish, undoubtedly so, but the true damage had not been caused by her decisions and she simply couldn't convince herself to keep away any longer."That sounds perfect." Trixie said.
"Yes, it does. Quite perfect."
