A sudden knock on Trixie's door pulled her out of her deep sleep, and as she looked over at the clock she could see that it was already midnight.
"Trixie? May I come in?" Katya asked as she opened the door just barely.
"What are you doing here? You should be resting, you are leaving so early in the morning." Trixie said as she got up from beneath the covers, walking over to the door to let her wife inside the room.
"And loose the chance to be with my wife for a final night before leaving? I think not." Katya said as she stepped inside, closing the door behind her.
"Katya, you need sleep."
"I need you." Katya said as she pulled her wife close and started to place sinful kisses down the side of her neck. "You, you, and only you."
"You know this is not wise." Trixie argued, although her body had already succumbed entirely to her wife's advances.
"Then tell me you want me to stop and I shall. One word from you and I will leave this room at once." Katya whispered, her hands traveling up and down her wife's body, which was only covered by a thin nightgown.
"Please no. Stay." Trixie said, turning around in her wife's arms and capturing her lips in a passionate kiss as she pressed their bodies together as close as possible.
She kissed Katya as if it was their last night on earth together.
Held her as if it was the last time she would.
Made love to her as if she would never be granted such pleasure again. As soon as dawn arrived and Katya rode away, their fairy tale could be over. Even if they wanted to believe otherwise, they had to prepare themselves for the very real possibility that this could be the last time they would be together. And so they loved each other with everything they had. Burned the imagine of each other's body into their minds. Worshiped each other as if they were worshiping the Gods above.
"You are so beautiful, so indescribably beautiful." Katya said, her fingers tracing Trixie's form, gently caressing her neck, the swell of her breasts, her stomach, and her thighs.
"As are you. I am surely the luckiest woman alive, to be granted a love as beautiful as you." Trixie said, bringing Katya in for another loving kiss.
"No, that would be me, no one could be luckier than me, for you are the greatest prize there is to win, the most exquisite diamond. I still cannot believe that you are mine, that I have somehow gained the right to say that you are."
"Well, I am, always and forever. I am yours, and only yours, nothing will ever change that." Trixie promised.
"And I am yours, immutably yours. I belong to you, and you alone for all eternity. I know you are frightened, but I swear we shall be together in the end. I know so, for my heart and my soul are bound to you, and always will be." Katya said, pulling her wife into a comforting hug. "I love you, Trixie."
"I love you too, Katya."
Soon enough dawn came, the morning sun peaking up over the horizon, and it was time for Katya to leave. Trixie could hardly breathe through her tears as she watched her love ride away into war, the horrors of what could happen haunting her mind. But Katya's mother was there to hold her, ready to comfort the terrified princess and offer words of understanding as she herself had seen her husband ride off to battle many times in the past.
Katya herself could not look back, knowing she would turn around on the spot if she did. Instead she kept her eyes on the horizon, riding towards an uncertain fate with hundreds of men following behind her. She needed to stay strong for the sake of her people, and so she let no tears fall even though her heart was breaking. All she could hope was that she would be back in Trixie's arms again before the soft, white blanket of winter covered the Resvyan fields, just as she had promised she would.
