The morning came as it had too, and the two girls braced themselves for the storm which was sure to come. For the first time since childhood, Katya got ready to face the world as herself, no disguises, no secrets. It was time to be truthful, to her subjects and to herself.
"Are you certain about this? There will be no going back if you go out there dressed this way." Trixie said in a concerned tone.
"I am sure. If we are to announce our marriage, I want to do it as myself. No more lies." Katya replied, intertwining their hands and kissing Trixie's softly.
They both took a deep breath before opening the doors, hearing gasps among the servants as soon as they exited the room. The shock on their faces was clear, even if most of them knew the truth or knew the rumors, none of them had seen Katya in her full glory nor did they know that Trixie was aware of it all.
Trixie looked at the Resvyan beauty next to her, admiring how the red tone of her dress complimented her skin tone and brought out her bright blue eyes. The gold accents of the garments also made her seem all the more regal, the golden two-headed eagle from the Royal Crest sewn unto the front of the bodice, making it impossible not to realize Katya's true identity.
The Midrosen girl had gone much simpler, wearing a white satin gown trimmed with light pink lace. An almost rebellious symbol of purity as she knew she would be considered ruined and filthy by the laws of her own country. On her head sat another show of rebellion; the crown she was meant to have worn on her wedding day. A crown which clearly marked that she was now a Princess of Resvya, and no longer lived under Midrosen law.
"Are you ready? You know there is no going back for you either, not if we walk into that room together." Katya said.
"I am certain. I will bless my homeland until the day I die, but even if I can never return after this, I know staying by your side is the right decision. It is bitter to leave it all, Midrosen raised me after all and now I may never see it again, so of course it is difficult. But I refuse to go against my own morals out of fear. My heart is telling me to stay, and so I shall."
"I love you, my brave Princess." The Resvyan girl replied, squeezing her wife's hand comfortingly before telling the guards to open the doors to the meeting room.
"What is this supposed t- Yekaterina?! So all you have told me was truly a lie!?" King Erik exclaimed as he viewed the pair.
"Well, well, well.... What have we here?" Prince Henri said with a satisfied smirk, the near promise of victory shining in his eyes.
"Beatrice, get away from her, child. This is not your fiancé, it is not what we agreed. Such a pairing is shameless, perverted, and I cannot believe I have been tricked into allowing it." The girl's father said, attempting to pull his daughter away from her lover. There was no more doubt now and so he knew he no longer needed to worry about keeping good relations with Resvya, especially since his daughter would ensure the protection of Midrosen by marrying Prince Henri.
"King Erik, please do let us explain." The Resvyan King tried to reason.
"I do not see how anything could explain away what I see with my own two eyes. Your Prince is a Princess, and I will not allow her to wed my daughter!"
"Father, I love her! Please, don't do this!" Trixie argued, still holding onto the faint hope that she could make him change his mind.
"It is against our laws! It is a betrayal against your country! Now, we can still fix this, Prince Henri has offered you his hand in marriage, and you will accept."
"Oh, we will be so happy together, Princess." Prince Henri said smugly, clearly remembering how Trixie had been so certain they'd never wed and enjoying her father now forcing the match.
"King Erik, this all seems a bit rash. Please sit down and let's talk about this." The Queen tried to intervene.
"I see no reason to speak to any of you further, you have betrayed our trust and so we will sail home at once. Now Beatrice, go pack and then we will make arrangements for your marriage to Prince Henri once we've returned home."
"Fath-"
"Now Beatrice!" The King yelled.
"No! I will do no such thing and you cannot make me! You see, I am no longer under your protection, I am under Katya's." Trixie said, hugging Katya close, needing to feel the safety of being in her strong arms.
"What nonsense is this?" The King replied.
"It is merely the truth, Your Majesty. You see, we were wed last night. Beatrice is my lawful wife, and so she is under Resvyan protection as the Resvyan Crown Princess." Katya said calmly and honestly.
"She cannot be wed to you! She is a Midrosen citizen and Midrosen law forbids it!" The King argued. "Beatrice, come with me at once and stop this perverted play."
"It is no play, nor is it perverted! I love her, I am hers, and nothing you do or say will change that." Trixie replied.
"My darling, is it true? Are you truly wed?" The Resvyan Queen asked her daughter.
"Yes mother, she is my wife in every way." Katya replied.
"Then King Erik, I fear you have no right to take Princess Beatrice anywhere." The girl's mother said.
"What?" The Midrosen King replied.
"I will not allow you to take her off Resvyan soil unless she wishes it. She is our Crown Princess and she is under our protection." The Queen said.
"This is ridiculous!" King Erik said. "Beatrice, you must come with me or you will bring a war upon our Kingdom!"
"He is right, Princess. Choose wisely, or Forquesse will bring a war upon both your nations, and oh how simple it will be now that your union is ruined." Prince Henri said.
"Their is no choice to make, I am her wife and I am staying with her. No matter what you threaten me with, I will stay in my rightful place by Yekaterina's side." Trixie replied.
"Fine, but you chose this, Princess." The Prince spat as he left the room.
"Now look what you've done! First you go and kill your own mother and now you choose to kill your nation?" King Erik yelled at the young girl.
"Father, how can you say such a thing?" Trixie whimpered, the mention of her mother stabbing her heart like a sharp knife. All her life he had seemed to treasure her, told her she was his miracle, and yet now he was blaming her for her mother's passing.
"You will not speak to my wife that way! Leave at once!" Katya said, her blood boiling.
"Yekater-"
"No mama, I demand for him to be removed from Resvyan soil! He will not stay a second longer if he chooses to disrespect my Trixie like that." The girl interrupted.
"Oh, believe me I am leaving. You can have the harlot I thought to be my daughter, I see now she is simply a demon sent to torture me." King Erik said before storming out.
"Father!" Trixie cried, unable to fully believe that he could toss her away so easily.
"I am so sorry, my angel... But it will be okay, I promise, all will be alright." Katya said, wrapping her wife up in a tight hug. "We will make it through all of this, just you wait. Someday we will have peace and quiet, and you will forget all about today. Just wait... Someday all will be alright, Trixie."
