Safely at Madeleine's our heroes can breath a sigh of relief for now...
" keep an eye on apple cinnamon and cream puff while I go my armour " Madeleine called to espresso, racing up the stairs of his house.
Espresso couldn't much argue because Madeleine was already gone... leaving him with two very scared children. Both of them still trembled, cream puff sniffing looking like she's about to cry.
Espresso's face fell " Hey... it's okay" Espresso bent down on one knee to get to their size. Cream puffs face was red down, as she was trying so hard not to get upset.
Now, as I said before Espresso has a soft spot for children and without thanking about it he opend his arms towards her inviting her into a hug with a smile. Cream puff whipped a tear from her face, before wrapping her arms around espresso. She held him in a surprisingly strong grip, as she started to cry.
" I..." she sniffled into espressos shirt, not being able to speak through the tears. Apple cinnamon looked just as considered... with a little head gesture to him. He let apple cinnamon know he could also join in on the hug. Which he gladly did, not just for himself but to comfort cream puff cookie.
Unannounced to them, Madeleine had started coming back down the stair's. Even in his hurry he stopped at what greeted him, staring for a moment wide eyed.
Espresso was at the bottom of the stairs. Holding the two children in a warm and comforting hug, he didn't even notice Madeleine coming toward them...
" it will be alright..." He whisperd to them, trying his best to make them feel safe.
As Madeleine came down the stairs. A part of him didn't want to break them apart... he almost looks a father.... Madeleine thought. WAIT! what? This was no time! To be thinking about espresso... at least not like that...
Finally reaching the bottom he tapped espresso on the shoulder " Espresso..."
It was only then that espresso realised that Madeleine was there at all!! He had to admit he was embarrassed being caught like this... espresso was know for being calculated and calm... his softer center hardly ever came out.
" we have a kingdom to save my dear friend" Madeleine smiled at him warmly. Almost letting him know in a way that espresso's secret of a softer side was safe with him. Espresso let go of cream puff and AC. Cream puff seemed to have stopped crying down, she seemed to be back to her determined self. Before Espresso and Madeleine could leave she pleaed with them " I can help you" she said, stepping forward to Madeleine. Her wand in her hand.
Madeleine smile. She reminded him of when he was young so courageous.... Still he knew it was far to dangerous for the children out their. Still... he didn't want to crush her spirit.
" actually...." He said thinking fast, bending down to speak with her face to face. " I have a very important job for you" He explained with a smile. Cream puffs eyes lit up at the chance to jelp! She wpuld do anything to help her friend's. " I want you to be home base for me and espresso" He said, a slight wink towards Espresso,
" home bace?" She questioned curiously. " cream puff, espresso and me are going to need a safe place we can return too if need be, think of it like a headquarters"
Cream puff gave a wide smile! With madeleine's word's " you really mean i can help?" She was so excited! " yes" affirmed " but i need you to stay here with apple cinnamon and make sure no bad guy's get into are headquarters, can you help us do that?" He asked her.
" YES" she proclaimed proudly, stamping her foot. This made Madeleine give a little laugh, standing up again. He was now ready for battle! Espresso smiled to himself, watching the two, he was actually pretty proud of how the Knight handled the situation.If they weren't about to head into a battel, he might of found the time to talk more about it or even give him a kiss....
Making sure both the kids and the house we're safe, Madeleine and espresso we're about to leave. If there was a good time for a last goodbye it was now. Looking out the window of madeleine's house they could see that the cake monster's hadn't reached this part of the kingdom yet. Still they didn't have a lot of time and didn't know what was waiting for them out there....
" it's going to be dangerous out there" Madeleine whisperd to espresso. Putting his hand on the door nob. He didn't show fear, Madeleine never would. But espresso could tell that the Knight was scared... maybe not for himself, but for other's.
Espresso, put his hand on madeleine's. Giving a small squeeze, they both pushed the door open and stepped out into the night... no matter what happens I'll stay by you're side.... and this was the first of many thoughts they shared.
