The sound of heartbreak is one that happens to be loud, it's not just loud in all actuality, it's frighteningly, sickeningly and hauntingly deafening; such tumultuous behaviour that cannot be ignored. With that said, Y/N shuffled to a compartment she had never once disappeared off to. It wasn't the usual one in which she and her darling friend Regulus had claimed as their own in recent events, or the one she had sat in for the past six years by herself when she lacked friends.

The stench of virility was thick in the air, it was painful to try and navigate her way through a carriage that was almost always filled with the Gryffindor men exclusively, they were always so horrid. Sirius Black popped his head out, his eyes filled with infatuation as he hurried Y/N inside, he was definitely a contributing factor to the virility, he also added hubris, so much that it too, began to suffocate her.

"Darling!" He grinned, rubbing his hands together in excitement, all while trying to take some of the heat from his surroundings. "You know, you don't look too pleased to see me." Sirius chuckled, letting go of Y/N, which caused her to flop down to a seat beside Peter; it was strange, Peter had been changing recently, he didn't seem as fluffy and happy as usual, he didn't hold onto his radio any longer either.

"Hey, Peter, where's the radio?" Y/N asked, curious at the missing device which he had clung to as if it was the only inkling of the outside world that he had any longer. The both avoided the contact between his mossy eyes and her much nicer E/C ones, to everyone in that carriage she looked, walked, talked and spoke like an angel but was truly this devil in disguise, she was never the way she seemed. Peter was intimidated by this notion.

"I, uh, I grew out of it." He shyly commented, rubbing the nape of his neck slightly with his right hand, he was trying to conceal him rubbing off the sweat that had formed on his left hand by using his right to give off the innocuous forefront. Yet, things had changed much more than anyone had ever wanted or anticipated, it certainly wasn't Y/N, but as the future told it, she seemed to have been a replacement for a lot of people.

"But it was so cool!" She sighed, letting the breath draw out completely. "Well, that can't be helped, can it?" She smiled slightly back, letting Peter take in her presence once more before reverting back to his cowardice. Alexander burst through the door, taking his rightful seat next to James, giving his sister a small look of understanding, they had shared a lot of emotions in the duration of the holidays. "Hello dearest..."

"You called?" Sirius retorted.

"You didn't let me finish." The girl huffed out. "Hello dearest, sibling." Y/N laughed, Sirius' entire mood deflating in a single phrase. She had taken note of how the elder Black brother's behaviour was off putting, different to his usual demeanour that he was adamant about wafting, it was all so unusual.

"Yes, hello dearest sister." Alexander rolled his eyes, he threw his right let over his left before cozying himself back into the chair. "Any comments from Regulus?" He asked, basically looking straight through her frontage.

"You're too good." Y/N groaned.

"You know, a hundred different ladies have told me that before you, don't go copying them." Alex joked, earning a hard punch to the side from James.

"You're a sad virgin." James laughed, his voice as booming as ever. "My guy, no woman has ever told you that."

"I'll ignore that because I'm feeling extra fun and cool today." Alexander scoffed, looking back towards Y/N. "So, have you spoken to him?"

"No." Y/N plainly stated.

"What do you mean no?" Alex groaned.

"No refers to the action of disagreeing or..." Y/N hummed, drawing circles around the palm of her hand, in some type of attempt to ignore what she was being asked, it was a bit too much for her. She hadn't told anyone beyond Alex the extent of her and Regulus' relations; it wasn't much but it was enough to make a grown man cry.

"I know what no means!" Alex gritted.

"We love a consenting king." Sirius nodded, giving Alex a small pat on the back. "Bruce Springfield would be so happy that at least one of you can accept  a no."

"Oh come on!" Remus yelled back. "Bruce hasn't harassed anyone, music doesn't mean he's sexually bothered any woman!" He then calmed down slightly, glaring at his dearest friend. "You know, Tom Jones never killed his ex-girlfriend and he still wrote Delilah."

"Shut up Bruce sympathiser." Sirius stuck out his tongue before shivering in his seat.

"We've had this conversation before, just because you can't contribute to anything or have a decent argument doesn't mean you can make up for it by just sprouting nonsense!" Remus angrily huffed, crossing his arms slightly, letting his smile drop into a deep frown. "Anyway, what's this about Regulus?"

"Yeah, what about the less attractive brother?" Sirius joked, ignoring Remus entirely.

"I'm going to be transparent." Y/N nervously told the group. "I think I quite fancy myself to be the future Mrs Regulus-Black." The world stopped, for just a moment everything stood still. The birds had stopped chirping, the earth stopped spinning and the stars became tranquil in movement. Sirius had to think about what he had just heard, for once he genuinely liked a girl and now she was over here fancying his brother? It was some paradox amongst himself.

He had everything that Regulus didn't, the best looks in the family, more height, he was a perfect alloy between being lean and built, he was funnier, he had friends, he had popularity, he was considered the best quidditch player and he was perfection, he was a petal on the rose of life, the kind that makes you look back at an ugly rose and think 'well at least that petal is still intact and pretty.'

How could she fancy his brother? Scientifically, mathematically, logically it didn't make sense, but even worse. It didn't make sense to Sirius' heart, he was so sure she liked him too, even though, he was told otherwise by his head. His heart of lead was being broken. Why did the reality of his situation have to hit him in the face?

"That's excellent!" Sirius yelled, biting down the need to cry. What was he thinking last year? Just letting her make the boy jealous! Thinking that perhaps she was just jealous from a best friend perspective, you know, he was her first friend. He was so self assured, so confident that he would just have time to make her like him, time that has suddenly run out.

"Truly!" Y/N smiled back. "I really, really like him." She then paused, looking down. "He likes me too, but we haven't spoken since Narcissa and Lucius' engagement party... so I'm a bit worried about things." All hope has been broken for Sirius, they like one another, it's not just some unrequited romance that can never bloom.

Fuck

How he wished he could plant a kiss onto those lips that had just broken him.
