1978 June __________________ ׂׂૢ་༘࿐

It was June, everyone was getting back their exams, whether or not they were just conventional Hogwarts testing measures or government-given. Y/N had received an 'O' on every exam — for outstanding performance — and Regulus' marks mirrored the same results. June also meant that the seventh years would be graduating and moving on with their lives, not to return (unless they became teachers of course).

Unfortunately, Y/N hadn't had the opportunity to rekindle her friendship properly with her brother and some of the 7th year Gryffindors. James had fallen into a loop of ignoring her, not because he didn't like her but rather because Alexander came first. Where James went, Sirius would follow, even if he was so madly in love with his brother's girlfriend-lover-thing. Remus and Peter however were still on much better terms with Y/N than their counterparts.

"What are you thinking about?" Regulus asked Y/N, his eyes still looking over his book.

"You."

"How romantic." Regulus rolled his eyes. "What were you really thinking about?"

"Why aren't we official?" Y/N inquired.

"You haven't asked me." Regulus licked his thumb and turned the page. "I've been the one making all these gestures and saying such words of endearment — it's your turn darling."

"Oh, you do have a point." Y/N hummed. "Ok."

Silence washed over them, all to be heard was the breeze and the ever changing season around them. Early June was always a beautiful sight in the Scottish highlands, particularly around the black lake, it was gorgeous and nothing had ever compared to it. The depths of the water, so clear yet so murky that you believed you could touch the bottom if you stuck your hand in (if you tried to do that, you would most probably drown).

"Would you like to be my boyfriend?" Y/N asked, picking at the grass from her spot on the picnic blanket.

"Oh fuck off, that's no way to ask." Regulus clamped his book shut, his eyes stared straight into hers; a certain sharpness about him.

"I never asked will you be my boyfriend — this is an entirely unrelated question that will not change the course of what we are currently." Y/N clarified.

The grass around the blew in the budding summer breeze, it was a lovely day out by the lake to be reading and enjoying a picnic in peace.

"I think you know the answer to that question."

"I want to hear you say it." Y/N whispered.

"Yes." He answered bluntly.

"Good." Y/N hummed. "On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the least amount and 10 being the most, how romantic do you want me to be when asking a certain question."

"A 13."

"I don't think I have the capabilities for that." Y/N laughed. "I can offer you two options, okay?"

"Okay, go ahead."

"Either, I wine, dine, then bed you." Y/N began.

"God, how tempting." Regulus rolled his eyes, causing her to lightly hit him on the arm.

"Or I think of something else."

"Take a guess which one I'll be choosing."

"Something else?"

"Not at all, I'd prefer the first one." His face beckoned closer.

"Shut up." Y/N's face heated up, embarrassed.

"Don't saying things you can't promise then." He shrugged, moving away, a smirk present on his features.

"I could totally do it." Y/N proudly smiled.

"Oh yeah?" Regulus laughed. "You could do it?" He shook his head. "Not when you get so flushed over just the thought of it, with your parents you would think such comments would be common."

"Yeah well not from you." She told him. "And I would knock your socks off."

"Who wears socks during sex?"

"You know what I meant!" She blushed even more. "You're filthy."

"Hardly." He smiled.

"Promiscuous you are."

"Only when you're involved."

"Merlin, what's gotten into you?" She asked, laughing as she laid back, the flowers beautiful, the water as complex as it always was, the sky a shade of grey-blue, and the grass as green as it always was during the heat of summers.

Regulus simply laid back with her.

"What would you do if I died?" Regulus asked, staring straight up.

"What?"

"I don't want to be here sometimes, it's not like I'd do anything... too scared." He began. "But if I died I wouldn't be mad, I'd be glad."

"I wouldn't be glad if you died." Y/N scowled.

"I wouldn't be upset if I saw a killing curse hurling towards me." He shrugged, his face contorted, his expression eerily scared. "I have this awful gut wrenching feeling that I'll... I'll die young, like I'm not meant to make it." He let out a shaky breath.

Y/N intertwined her fingers with his.

"You're meant to be here, in this moment, the future is ever-changing, but I believe you'll be here for a long time." She told him, gripping onto his hand for dear life.

"Thank you." He whispered. "I love you."
