My eyes opened and a bright light was blinding me, I squinted and bright my arm up to my face.
"What the-"
"You're up." Bruce's voice interrupted.
I turned my head to see him sitting in a swivel chair beside me, my breathing stung a little but it wasn't unexpected after hitting a tree at full Hulk force.
"What's going on?" I asked rubbing my eyes.
"We couldn't wake you when we got back so you were rushed to the shield hospital, after running some tests you seemed to just be sleeping." He said softly keeping his distance.
I tried to lift my other arm only to find it stung, I looked over and saw I have a cannula in my wrist and bandages wrapped around it tight.
"Bruce, get that thing out of my hand now." I said as I moved my wrist.
He rushed over to the other side of me and loosened the bandages and started to apply pressure, it hurt a little bit not as much as skin trying to heal over a metal syringe.
"Hold pressure there for me?" He asked pressing on my hand.
My finger tips pressed the spot making me wince, my skin crawled as the wound started healing over bit by bit.
"What time is it anyway?" I asked looking over to the curtain covered window.
"Six thirty-two AM." He said looking at his watch.
My eyes widened at his words, I thought I'd only been asleep for a hour or so.
I started sitting up as he fixed my hand, there was more bandages around my torso constricting my chest and waist.
"Take it easy, you're pretty beat up." He said moving back from me a little.
"What's the damage then?" I asked as I pulled the hospital shirt forward to look at my body.
"Three cracked ribs, heavy bruising on the back all along and mild concision."
"That all?" I laughed as I moved the blanket off me.
"Liz, please you're going to hurt yourself." He said rushing over to the other side of the bed.
"Bruce, I'm fine. My body is already healing itself, I promise I'll take it easy though the next few days at school." I said standing.
"School? No way, Steve is never going to let that happen while you're like this." He said frantically as he grabbed a dressing gown from the chair next to him.
"He'll get over it, I can't just start at a new school then not show up. Don't you think that would look even more suspicious?" I asked as he put the gown over my shoulders.
"I guess you're right, but just remember that you're body will take time to heal from this. It's not like you getting punched by a bad guy, you got hit by Hulk." He said with pain in his voice.
I turned to him to see he was hurting, there was no way he could have stopped what happened but he still wished he could have done more.
"It's okay, I know this wasn't your fault. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, I did want something exciting to happen on my first mission." I smiled.
He smiled back weakly before putting his hand on my shoulder to comfort me, it was strange to think how kind hearted Bruce was while the Hulk was just a giant ball of anger and rage.
"Let's get you out of here." He smiled.
After being discharged Bruce drove us back to the tower with a stop over for a hot drink, with our coffee and hot chocolate in hand we were ready to take on the rest of the day.
