The day started fading to dusk as I watched from my apartment window at the skies, my body started aching as the cold set in over the hour I sat in silence by myself.
My tumbler sat in my hand softly swirling the amber liquor as the ice melted, my mind was messy today and nothing was helping with the stress it caused me.
If considered going to talk to Steve but something made it hard to right now, maybe because of Liz.
The sound of knocking on my front door made me roll my eyes and groan, I got up and made my way over to the door finishing off my drink leaving only a half melted ice cube.
"What?" I asked not even looking as I opened the door.
"Is this a bad time?"
My heart dropped as Liz's voice filled my ears, I looked down to see her standing in the doorway with her head down.
"No, come in." I said moving out the way for her.
As she asked in I shut the door and watched her as she made her way to my lounge room, she was wearing just some plain grey jeans and a white pull over making me wonder if she'd even been home to change after school.
"Everything okay?" I asked walking into the open lounge.
She dropped into the large four seater couch silently not even looking at me, my body started tensing sung her like this.
"Is something wrong?" I asked a little more sternly putting my tumbler on the coffee table.
She remained silent pulling her legs up onto the couch, as moved her body so she was in the corner against the arm.
"Liz." I said sternly.
No reaction.
"Elizabeth!" I snapped.
Her eyes moved to mine quickly, her face looked like a deer in the headlights.
Her body froze up as she pulling her legs closer into her chest, my heart ached seeing her like this.
"Sorry.." I whispered.
"Its okay." She whispered in the silent space.
I walked over to the couch and sat down on the other end giving her as much room as possible, I didn't mean to get angry at her.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I asked softly.
She shook her head before pulling the denim blue throw blanket over her from the middle of the couch, she rugged herself up making me smile weakly as she continued to avoid eye contact.
I leaned forward and grabbed the remote off the coffee table and softly tossed it towards her feet, her eyes moved to it before picking it up and turning on the TV.
As she flicked through the channels I got up and made my way towards the kitchen, there was nothing I wanted more tonight than to just sit in silence with my mind and try to calm the enraged memories before bed.. But I didn't mind her being here.
I pulled two mugs out from the upper cupboard and placed them on the bench before walking to the pantry, thankfully I still kept the Arcadia drinking chocolate she liked on hand in case of this kind of situation.
The TV got a little louder from the lounge making me roll my eyes while I heated up milk on the stove with the chocolate powder in it, I made myself a coffee while I waited for her hot chocolate to heat and splashed some scotch into my cup.
Once the chocolate milk was hot I poured it into her mug and rinsed off the pot leaving it in the sink, I picked up the mugs and made my way back to the couch.
