"Nice job, Lei!" I said, high-fiving my little brother as he passed me by.
Lei smiled. "Good luck out there, Sis. You'll need it if you're up against Nahi."
If I didn't know how strong Nahimana was, I would've been so mad at him. But I did know. Nahimana deciding to opt out of last year's event was a good thing for the rest of us. She probably would've been the champion instead of Arima if she had. But why did she not participate? She must've been worried about her dark spirit escaping.
I stepped into the nearly reformed ring and waited for Nahimana to appear. She had yet to return from the nurse's office.
Would she skip out on this year's match too? Hopefully not. I wanted to face her.
Suddenly, a pillar of light beamed down from the sky. My opponent stepped out of the receding light.
"Hope that I didn't make you wait too long," Nahimana said with a slight smile as she removed her black coat.
I laughed. "Was starting to think that you weren't going to show."
Nahi scoffed as she threw her coat into the air like a champion's cape. "I missed last year's tournament. I don't plan to do the same thing this year."
"Seems that our two girls are rearing to go! Without further ado, begin!" Marina yelled.
The white tiles that had been under my feet shattered as a sonic boom propelled me forward.
I formed a fist and threw it at Nahimana. My eyes widened as a wall of light pushed me back. She must've been prepared to cast it from the start as it appeared too fast.
I patted my bleeding hand and zipped over behind her. Again, another wall appeared. This time it was one of shadowy hands.
I gritted my teeth as the dark hands grasped my leg before my kick could reach her.
Nahimana calmly turned around and smiled. "Thought you wanted to become Magus Maximus. The way you currently are, I doubt you can defeat either of your brothers."
Wind flew out of my leg, blowing up the shadowy hands like balloons.
I laughed. "You think that my little bros are stronger?"
I summoned my wand and transformed it into its twin crystal butterfly swords form.
Nahimana hummed doubtfully. "You aren't?"
Wind spirals tore the ground around me.
"Of course not. As the big sister, I won't allow myself to be overtaken by my little bros!"
Nahimana gasped as I swung my swords forward. She formed a black barrier that absorbed my attacks like some strange goo.
It reminded me of her black cocoon, which absorbed energy attacks, but that was different. It wouldn't be absorbing my wind if it were.
