*Niall's P.O.V.*

I pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex, locking my car doors, before climbing the rickety stairs to apartment 2B, where Skye lives, before I knocked on the door.

"Just a minute" Skye called from inside the apartment.

I waited a minute or two before Skye opened the door.

"Hey Nialler!" She greeted.

"Nialler?"

"Do you not like being called Nialler?"

"It's not that, I'm just not used to it. Nobody calls me Nialler except for my family" I explained.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I won't call you that anymore if you don't want me too"

"Nah, it's fine, don't worry about it" I told her before we stood in her doorway in an awkward silence for about a minute.

"Oh, would you like to come in?" She finally asked.

"Sure" I said, stepping into the apartment.

"Do you mind taking your shoes off? My mom doesn't like people wearing shoes in the house" I pulled my shoes off and set them on the mat by the door. "Thanks"

"No problem, my parents are the same way" I said before another awkward silence.

"Um, do you mind if we hang out in my room? My mom has the day off and I don't know if she wants to hang out here"

"That's fine by me" I told her before following her down the hallway to her room.

She opened the door, revealing a decent sized room. The walls were light grey, probably from when they started renting the apartment, and the room was very organized.

"Somebody's a neat freak" I joked in a singsong voice.

"Yeah" she blushed, sitting on her bed. "Would you like to sit down?" She asked awkwardly.

"Sure" I said, sitting down on her bed. She slightly stiffened and scooted away from me a bit. Why is she so stiff when I get close to her? "So, what do you want to do today?"

"I don't know" I replied.

"Want to watch Horrible Bosses? It's really funny"

"Okay, sure" I replied.

She got up and grabbed her laptop and the DVD before laying down on the bed, turning her laptop on and getting it ready to watch the movie.

"My Uncle Jaxx bought me this laptop for my birthday last year" she told me. "He buys me nice things for my birthday and Christmas because I can't save my paycheck and buy it myself"

"Why not?"

"I help my mom out with living expenses"

"Why doesn't your dad help her?"

"I don't even know who he is. He doesn't pay child support or anything, even if he offered, my mom doesn't want anything from him" she told me.

"So you help your mom out since your dad won't?"

"Yeah, I know she feels bad about taking money from me, but she works all the time and doesn't have time for a second job. She's practically a zombie"

"So that's why you guys live here"

"Yeah, we live here because it's inexpensive. We're saving up for a house in a nicer neighborhood" she told me. "Can you hand me that box over there?" She asked, pointing to a shoe box.

I got up, walking over to the box on top of the shelf by the window.

"The fire escape is outside your window" I said.

"Yeah, it's good for sneaking out"

"And creeps sneaking in"

"You can't go up the stairs, you can only go down. The bottom set of stairs lower when you put your weight on them. There is no way someone can lower them to climb up without someone going down" she explained. "Kind of like in the movie A Guy Thing"

"Haven't seen it"

"We'll have to watch it sometime" she said, opening the shoe box full of candy.
