Chapter 16 - Sleepover

Tori's POV

A week after I had brought Jade back to the table, things had gone relatively well. Jade would join us and most of the time, she said little, save for an occasional threat to disembowel Robbie if Rex didn't shut up. Outside of lunch, Jade mostly kept to herself. I expected that. Just her being at the table was a big enough step. It would be unrealistic, to suddenly have her spring back to the person she once was.

But that person she once was, no longer exists. Jade being blind has changed her. Just as me being paralyzed and losing my mom and sister has changed me. I so desperately want to be old Tori again. But she died in that car accident as well. I both morn and rage over her loss. Like Jade, I have my anger and rage. Granted, I've dealt with it in various ways, but it's still there.

Just as I have helped Jade, she has helped me deal with my anger and feelings of isolation.

She hadn't been over to my house in the last week as she had a project to do and actually spent some time with Andre working on some songs one night.

It was a Friday morning and I wanted to do something with Jade. As I rolled into the school, I went up to Jade' s locker, just as she opened it.

"Hey Jade"

"Hay is for horses, what do you want Vega!"

Her mouth firmly attached to one of my breasts, suckling away with reckless abandon would be nice. I quickly pushed the dirty thought out of my mind and got down to business.

"Hey....Ir um. Do you want to sleep over tonight? We haven't done anything in the last week. I thought it might be fun, assuming that isn't a problem."

No One's Pov

For a moment, Jade threw up her hands in a rather giddy fashion. Then in a very sarcastic voice replied. "Ohh.....We can do our nails, eat chocolate ice cream, gossip about cute boys and tell ghost stories."

As soon as she was done speaking Jade pulled a book out of her locker and placed it in her bag. It was her braille algebra book which she always had on the far-right side of her shelf.

It was then she noticed that in the several seconds that had gone by, Tori hadn't responded. Jade knew Tori was still there, as she hadn't heard the tell-tale squeak of her wheelchair. But all of sudden Tori had gone silent.

After a few more seconds, it suddenly dawned on her why Tori had gone silent. Feeling a little embarrassed, Jade said. "Oh..You actually want to do those things with me."

Tori sighed slightly and her voice falling, said. "Actually yes. All except for the cute boy's part. But that's ok. It's no big deal. Thanks anyway. See you later."

Just as Jade heard the squeak of the wheelchair, indicating Tori was now moving away, Jade reached over and grabbed it. "Hold on."

"What?"

"Sorry if I was an ass. Sure, I'd love to."

Jade could hear Tori's voice perk up. "Great. You want to invite Cat?"

"Do you like knock knock jokes, Tori?"

"No, not Really."

"Well, I'd imagine you'd like them even less if you got woken up to be told one. So, let's not invite her and say we did. I'm not up to dealing with Cat, for any length of time, yet."
