"So, Aaron..."
We all turned to Mira's father when we heard him talk.
"What do your parents do for a living?" he continued while cutting the steak on his plate.
Napansin ko naman na bahagyang tinapik siya ng kaniyang asawa. Tila hindi niya nagustuhan ang naging tanong nito kay Aaron.
"Ah, my parents own an international travel agency, Sir," payak na tugon naman ni Aaron at bahagyang ngumiti.
Oh. I see. Ngayon ko lang nalaman. They must be rich.
Tumango-tango lang naman si Mr. Estrella at nagpatuloy na sa pagkain. We did the same.
Maya-maya pa, nagsalita ulit siya, kaya napalingon kami ulit sa kaniya.
"I heard you're courting my daughter, Mira," wika niya at saglit na tinignan ako bago ibalik ulit kay Aaron ang kaniyang tingin.
Napayuko ako. I knew this would happen! I hope they won't ask him something absurd.
"Yes. I am indeed courting your daughter, Mr. Estrella," I heard Aaron reply.
"Why?"
As soon as I heard Mr. Estrella's question, my eyes flitted back to him. What kind of question is that? Tinignan ko si Aaron. He's just smiling.
"Because I want to always be with her, and I love her, Sir," he answered. They're looking at each other's eyes.
"I see. And why do you love her?"
"I just do, Sir. What's there not to love about her?" Aaron said.
I froze. Oh, my God. I can feel my ears turning red.
Mira's father stared at Aaron like he was staring straight into his soul. Hindi naman nagpatinag si Aaron. Despite the intense stare, he managed to hold his ground.
Maya-maya pa, nag-iwas na ng tingin si Mr. Estrella at bumuntong hininga.
"Okay. You have my permission. But if I saw my daughter crying because of you, I won't let you live another day," kalmado, pero may halong pagbabantang wika ng ama ni Mira.
"Thank you, Sir. I won't ever hurt Mira. That's the last thing I would do," nakangiting ani ni Aaron at sinulyapan ako. The brief contact between our gazes made my heart skip a beat.
"Okay. Enough with the questions," Mrs. Estrella told her husband. She then turned to me and Aaron. "Eat well," nakangiti niyang wika sa amin. I just flashed her a small smile.
