We were the first ones to arrive at the restaurant. Me and Brad walked in with linked arms and went straight to the bar to wait for the others. We needed a quick drink of alcohol to help us get through the night.

Tonight was the night that Brad was meeting my parents, I was meeting Brad's parents and mine and Brad's parents were meeting each other. I put was a lot all in one night, all at one meal, all 6 of us sat round one table. No way to escape. That's why we needed the quick drink.

My parents arrived first and they seemed to like Brad so far. We spoke at the bar together for a bit whilst my dad bought a round of drinks for us. About half an hour later Brad's parents walked through the door of the restaurant.

"Fashionably late." He whispered to me.

I just elbowed him as it wasn't quite the right thing to say in this situation. Everyone greeted each other and we were all taken to our table. It was a round table with 6 chairs. All of our drinks were brought to us. I sat next to Brad and his mum and Brad was sat next to me and my mum and then our two dads were sat next to each other.

It all started with general conversation between us all.

Half way though the dinner our dads were having a good chat about golf and cars and things like that and our mums were talking to each other about dresses and perfumes which just left me and Brad. We were really happy that it was going so well and the fact that it wasn't awkward except for the fact that me and Brad had been kind of left out. But it meant that we could talk about our plans for the rest of the night without anyone hearing or listening...
