Chapter 29

Imani's POV

I came home and I couldn't stop thinking about what happened with Bonnie and her grandmother. It really took a toll on me. I ended up taking a shower and going to bed. I woke up the next day with knocking on my door. I groggily get up to see who it was, it was Stefan.

"What do you want Stefan? What was so important that you had to interrupt my sleep?" I asked annoyingly 

"I needed your help with something." He said

"What else is new." I said while I rolled my eyes and I plopped down on the couch.

"So, we think there is a Vampire Hunter in town." He said 

My eyes widened when he said that.

"Vampire Hunter? Are you sure?" I asked

"He shot Tyler with six bullets. When we pulled them out of his body they hurt to touch. We think they're laced with vervain. I came over here to see if you recognized this marking??" He asked. And then he showed me the bullets. it had some kind of marking on it that looked like and X

"This marking looks so familiar. Do you mind if  I keep one of these?" I asked him 

"Yea sure. Let me know if you find anything." He said 

"Yea of course." I said to him

As the day went on I went to my grimoires trying to see if I could find this symbol. And nothing. I then saw how it was night outside. I went a whole day searching for an answer and got nothing. I then got a text from Stefan saying, 

Meet at the bench in front of the school 

I found it a bit weird but I decided to go.

When I got there everyone was there. Caroline, Bonnie, Stefan, Elena, Jeremy and even Damon.

"What are we doing here?" Damon asked

"I don't know. Ask Stefan." Bonnie said

"Stefan, what are we doing?" Damon asked

"We're finishing the memorial we didn't get to have earlier. We need to start healing, Damon. We've all lost so much, especially recently. I think we're numb to it. We push it away, we make a joke out of it, ignore how we feel. Time to just let ourselves grieve." Stefan said

"So you're lighting lanterns?" Damon asked

"Yeah, yeah. We need to do this." Stefan said

"What we need to do is find out who this hunter is and what he knows about the death of the council. We have more important things to be doing right now than this." Damon said

"Not tonight, we don't." Stefan said 

I ended up grabbing a lantern.

"This is for my uncle Zach. My friend Lexi. For Alaric." Stefan said and he lit his lantern. he then passed the lighter to Matt.

"This is for Vickie." Matt said. he then passed the lighter to Caroline 

"This is for my dad. And Tyler's" Caroline said and then passed the lighter to Jeremy 

"This is for our parents, for Vickie, Anna, Jenna and Alaric." Jeremy said he then tried to pass it to Damon

"No way. Im not doing that." Damon said and then he walked away

Jeremy then passed the lighter to Bonnie.

"This is for my Grams." Bonnie said and then she passed the lighter to me

I slowly took it.

"Um. This... this is for my brother, Marcel. He died in a fire a long time ago. But I still miss him." I said while lighting the lantern. I then passed the lighter to Elena.
