Colby was panting, legs and arms twisting in his sleep around the blankets on his and Sam's bed back at the cabin. A light sheen of sweat glistened on his skin. He murmured and mumbled in his sleep.
"Should we wake him?"
"No, he needs to sleep right now. He hasn't slept for more than an hour."
"I hate to see him like this, Amber."
"I know— he is in hell right now. We must support him. He's our Alpha, Xepher."
"Not technically, but still..."
"Come, let's go for a run in the woods, Xepher. I could use some more practice in my wolf form."
"Shouldn't we stay here with him? What if Jake comes for him or something?"
"No one knows about this place, Xepher. Colby told me that only the immediate pack knew about this place. And Colby will be okay."
"Alright..."

It is always the same dream... over and over again, like some broken record. Colby will open his eyes and, then, he will hear the screams. They haunt him and Colby wishes he could turn his ears off as well as his eyes.
Sam is laid out on a bench, shirt torn from his body, and there is a figure hunched over him. Claws and teeth rip into Sam's stomach and there's blood everywhere. Sam is screaming and crying.
Colby is frozen to his spot, watching the scene play out before him.
It's always the same dream.

A month has passed since Colby roamed the halls of the nearby hospital looking for his mate. A whole fucking MONTH! And Colby was nowhere near close enough to discovering where Sam might have been taken.
Colby had his two Beta's and their mates wait at the Team 10 Pack House, hoping for any signs that they had Sam. Neither Beta could smell the Alpha's Omega around the house, but Colby had hope that he was being held there. Maybe the pack had some scent diffuser of something, but Colby couldn't stop thinking that he was there.
Amber and Xepher came back to the cabin with Colby so he could keep them from trouble. As the Alpha of L.A., he had duties and he couldn't stray from them even with his mate gone. Besides, it would be a huge red flag if Colby showed up at the Team 10 Pack House since he was an Alpha. It would give Jake Paul every right to attack him and Colby wasn't planning on giving Jake Paul a legitimate reason for anything.
Besides, he trusted Elton and Jake. If they couldn't find Sam, then it wouldn't matter if Colby was looking, too.

Colby looked at himself in the mirror and exhaled slowly, tearing his eyes away from the sight before him. He is bare before himself in the mirror. The hot water from a shower streams down his chest, a shower that Amber forced him to take.
He hated how he looked in the mirror: all sharp angles and pale skin and bruises and scratches. He knew they were from his dreams, as he woke up from them with blood under his fingernails and steeped across his sheets like fallen feathers. Their bed is starting to stop smelling like Sam and each night Colby buries himself deep within it, hoping to find Sam somewhere in all his bedding.
Colby groaned, scratching at his rough chin, and grabbed a pair of XPLR sweatpants and an old shirt from the sink counter, quickly slipping them on over his body. With how they looked on him, there was some sense of normalcy, but a reveal under the fabric told another story.
