Colby shoved Amber into the room across from them the second the gun went off. The bullet zipped past Colby's ear and barely missed the pair as they fell into the room. The sound of the bullet colliding with the wall ricocheted behind them, and Colby felt a shiver run down his spine. It was another brush with death.
The room they were in was clearly a former locker room for Preston Castle's sports with several rows of lockers and a row of sinks and showers in the back. Colby wasted no time in scrambling for the benches and lockers as he pulled them over to the door. Amber immediately helped the second she noticed what he was doing.
"That's not Kyle, Amber," Colby gasped for air, shoving a locker against the door.
"I think I know what my ex looks like, Colby," she hissed at him, throwing a bench toward him.
"I'm trying to tell you that's Lucian, Amber," Colby snarled, snatching the bench and pushing it under the knob of the door.
A bullet suddenly went through the door, making both of them jump as it smashed into the tile behind them and sending shards of porcelain everywhere.
"Fucking hell," Colby cursed, his heart beating erratically in his chest.
"Lucian?" Amber screeched as she tugged on another locker, trying to rip it from the wall.
" Yes !" Colby cried out as he went over to help her, "Lucian turned you, Amber, and he is helping the hunters. Seth Borden confirmed this after we got a letter from the hunters detailing how you were never meant to become a werewolf."
Amber pulled away abruptly from the locker with wide eyes that began to water. Colby finished yanking the locker away from the wall, but noticed Amber's frozen state. He quickly shoved the locker against the door before turning back to the omega.
"Turned... Never?" Amber's gaze was on the floor now as she heard Colby's words bounce in her head.
"You didn't kill those humans, Amber," Colby turned to her, grasping her shoulders tightly with his hands, "You couldn't have because Lucian turned you that night. He is doing this for revenge against me and pulled you into the middle of it all."
Amber looked at him with tears in her eyes, "Why me? I'm just some girl. I was simply his tool?"
Colby pulled her into a hug as she sobbed into his shoulder, "Because I care about you, and you're more than just some girl, Amber. You're like the sister I never had. You're powerful and amazing and brilliant. And I am so sorry I brought you into this world."
A sharp laugh came from Amber as she sniffled, pulling her head away from his chest to look up at him, "Siblings who flirt, huh?"
Colby laughed and shook his head, "You know what I mean, Amber."
The Omega nodded slowly with a giggle of her own as she nuzzled back into his chest, "Love you too."
A gunshot went off again, breaking the pair apart, and the door heaved as something large and powerful rammed into it from the other side. Dust flirted down from the wood joints above. Both of them coughed and fanned the dust away from their faces.
"You can't run, Alpha Colby!" Artemas laughed as he taunted from the other side of the door.
The door heaved again, and the lockers moved inch by inch away.
"This isn't gonna hold, Amber," Colby turned back to the Omega, "Can you fight? I need you to..."
Amber nodded, inhaling gently as she calmed herself, "Don't have much options anyway," she winked at him.
The door heaved again and the lockers spilled away from the entrance. The bench snapped in half, sending splinters falling down around them. Colby stepped in front of the Omega, eyes flashing red, as he backed them both up further into the room.
