Colby's eyes were so dark as they stared at Sam and his words echoed in Sam's ears, "This isn't the end, " he repeated through their connection, vibrating perfectly.
Sam closed his eyes and his bottom lip trembled. His senses exploded around him. He could hear the birds in the trees around them. The wind blew through the top of the canopy. Colby's heartbeat thudded with confidence before him. His handcuff "jewelry" clinked against the belt Colby wore around his waist as the Alpha shifted on his feet. Behind them, Colby's car engine cooled and crinkled.
"If this isn't the end, then this is the beginning," Sam swallowed his emotions, closing out the sounds around him, "And we still have the whole story to get to the end."
"Come here, Sam," Colby spoke softly.
Sam opened his eyes and turned to his Alpha, "We've been through so much already, Colbs."
"This isn't the end of the story," Colby reached for his Omega, their fingers grasping each other. The wood creaked beneath Sam's feet as he shuffled closer, "We've walked through almost all of it already, Sam. But, I can taste it... the end," Colby ran a finger over his knuckles.
"God...," Sam sighed with a curse and shut his eyes once more.
The Alpha brought Sam into him, lifting his chin. Colby's eyes flickered to Sam's own as they flew open to stare at the brunette. All Colby could see was the love and the trust that Sam had for him. Softy, Colby closed the distance, cupping the side of Sam's face gently, and pressed a delicate kiss to Sam's lips, "I'll never grow old of you," his voice caressed Sam's skin.
The blonde sighed, leaning his forehead against the other.
"I made a promise," Colby echoed, "I plan to keep that promise till the day I die and beyond that."
A sort of thrill sent a shiver down Sam's spine and he pulled away from his mate. A smirk grew on his face, mischievous and delighted.
Colby cocked an eyebrow and bent his head to the side.
Sam only walked backwards, fingers playing with the hem of his jacket, "Come get me, Colby."
And the Omega sprinted off into the woods, leaving his mate in the burnt cabin.
The corner of Colby's lips turned up into a small dimple.
Oh, two can play at this game.
Adrenaline surged through Colby as he pulled his sweatshirt over his head, discarding it on the ground beneath him, and he sprinted off after his mate.
Branches snapped at his skin. Blood stained wherever they touched on his body. The pain reminded Colby of where he was and kept his wolf at bay. He broke out in a sweat as he sprinted further into the woods, thankful to have rid himself of his sweatshirt.
