We watched as Sam crossed the street, before heading towards a footbridge over Storrow Drive.
" Where's she going?"
" The river, obviously," Blitz replied." She checked out your body at the funeral home-"
" Can we please not phrase it that way?" Magnus cut in.
" She didn't find the sword." Blitz continued." Now she's checking the river."
As Sam climbed the ramp to the footbridge, she looked in our direction for a moment, causing us to have to duck behind a pile of snow and wait until she turned back.
" I don't like it," Blitzen adjusted the glasses he was wearing." Best case scenario, the Valkyries sent her, but-"
" No. She was kicked out of the Valkyries," Magnus said, before going on to explain what had happened at dinner a few nights ago.
Daughter of Loki? Hearth signed. She's working for her dad.
" I don't know, I can't quite believe that."
Because she saved you?
Magnus didn't answer the question. He thought about it for a second, before pointing to Hearth's bruised eye. Permission?
He touched our elven friend's eyelid, before glowing for a second as Blitz and I watched the bruise vanish.
" You're getting good at that, Magnus."
" Whatever," Magnus said after grabbing his hand back from Hearth, who'd been trying to study it." We're losing Sam. Let's go."
We followed the previous Valkyrie across the footbridge, before she suddenly vanished when we reached the other side.
" Awesome," I said sarcastically, putting my hands in my pockets." We lost her, just as we were one-hundred percent attempting to do."
Blitz limped into the nearest shadows.
" You okay?"
" Legs are just slightly petrified, nothing to worry about."
" That sounds like something to worry about."
Wish I had a bow. Hearth signed as he paced. I could have shot her.
" Stick to magic, my friend."
Can't read your lips. Hearth signed to his Dwarf friend. The beard is bad enough, the ski mask is impossible.
Blitz set down the bag before signing as he spoke." Hearth is very good with runes. He knows more rune magic than any living mortal."
" Mortal like human?"
I facepalmed before Blitzen replied to my brother's ignorance.
" Kid, humans aren't the only mortal species. I meant humans, dwarves, or elves. You can't count giants- they're weird. Or gods, obviously. Or the soothsayers who live in Valhalla. I never understood what they were. But among the three mortal species, Hearthstone is the best magician... Well, he's the only magician, as far as I know. He's the first person in centuries to dedicate his life to magic."
I'm blushing.
" My point is," Blitz continued." You've got real talent, but still you want to be an archer!"
