How do the nine worlds keep getting worse and worse? We walked through the most creepy forest I'd ever seen, in real life or in a movie. After a little while, we arrived to a clearing with a pile of stones in the middle.
Magnus looked towards the stones." What is that?"
The well. Hearth signed.
We didn't even need to say anything more than that, Magnus simply signed. I'm sorry.
Hearth knelt down a rune stone that I recognized as Othala.
Why is that here? Magnus asked.
Means home, or what is important.
" Inheritence?" Magnus offered.
Hearth thought about it for a second. I put it here when I left, years ago. This rune I will not use. It belongs to him.
Nothing else needed to be said, Magnus and I both understood. We walked away from the clearing and eventually reached the river, heading towards a waterfall. After a moment of looking at the first waterfall, it was decided that this was not the right place for an evil dwarf to live, so we kept looking. Once we found a second waterfall, we stopped in front of the dark water.
" There could be anything down there," Magnus pointed out to our elven friend." How do we do this?"
Hearth gestured to Magnus's pendant. Be ready.
" Uh... okay," my brother said, before both of us drew our swords.
Jack popped up once again." Hey guys! Whoa! We're in Alfheim! Did you bring sunglasses for me?"
" Jack, you don't have eyes."
" Yeah, but still, I look great in Sunglasses!" Jack argued." What are we doing?"
Magnus and I gave him a quick explanation of our ( most likely stupid) plan.
" Andvari?" the sword asked." Oh, I've heard of that guy. You can steal his gold, but don't kill him. That would be really bad luck."
" Meaning what exactly?"
" And how do you know?" I asked." Considering, you know, no one's killed him yet to test the theory."
Jack tilted a little, the sword equivalent of a shrug." I dunno what would happen. I just know it's right up there on the things-you-don't-do list, along with breaking mirrors, crossing paths with Freya's cats, and trying to kiss Frigg under the mistletoe. Boy, I made that mistake once!"
I decided I did not want to hear that story, and thankfully Hearth raised a rune before Jack even had the chance to begin his tale.
I looked at Hearth's rune. Thurisaz. The rune of Thor. The first rune I'd seen in Valhalla, and one of the many runes I'd learned about in Runes-For-Beginners ( To The Death) in Valhalla.
Hearth slammed the fist he held the rune in into the pond. All of a sudden, where there was once a pond, there was a huge crater filled with fish flailing around out of the water.
" Whoa, where did the waterfall-" Magnus began to ask, before looking up.
Over our head lay the river, floating through the air before meeting with the rest of the river a little ways away.
" Hearth, how the heck-?"
Hearthstone turned around with anger in his eyes. Next to me, Magnus took a step back, and I had to stop myself from falling into the earth to get away from my now terrorifying elven friend.
" Uh, just saying man," Magnus said after a moment, raising his hands in surrender." You nuked about fifty innocent fish."
One of them is a dwarf. Hearth stated.
" Alright," I agreed." About fourty-nine innocent fish."
" Jack, Willow," Magnus turned to us." What does the Thurisaz rune do?"
" It's the rune of Thor señor," Jack replied." Hey- Thor, señor, that rhymes!"
I rolled my eyes." What Jack is forgetting to say is that the rune Thurisaz holds the power of destruction, so it can explode ponds and such. But, as you can see with Hearth currently, using the rune also makes the user a bit... well... Thor like."
Magnus stared down into the crater where the pond used to be for a few moments longer.
" Hey," I said, putting a hand on my brothers shoulder." It'll be fine, the rune will wear off and Hearth will be back to himself in just a few minutes. This is the best chance we have to catch that dwarf. Jack and I will keep watch incase anything happens."
" Which would be easier and cooler with sunglasses!" Jack added.
Magnus and I both ignored him as my brother jumped into the pit, joining Hearth in searching the mud. We'd been waiting around for a few minutes, when there was a yell from the pit, telling Jack and I that they'd caught our dwarf.
" Andvari, I presume?" I heard Magnus's voice ask as I continued scanning the trees for any danger." Nice to meet you."
" Let me go!" Andvari yelled." My treasure is not in this pond! Actually, I don't have a treasure! Forget I said that!"
" Hearth," my brother said." How about we get out of here? Let the pond fill up again."
I turned around, seeing the water beginning to start falling back down." You should probably get back up here! The rune's power is fading!"
My brother nodded, before wrapping his free arm ( the one that wasn't currently holding a fish) around Hearth, before leaping out of the crater just before the water came crashing down.
" Let me go you scoundrel!" The fish in Magnus's hand demanded.
" Counterproposal. Andvari, this is my friend Jack, the Sword of Summer. He can cut through almost anything. He sings pop songs like a demented angel. He can sing pop songs like a demented angel. He can also fillet a fish faster than you would believe. I'm about to ask Jack to do all of those things at once- or you can turn into your normal form, slow and easy, and we can have a chat."
Apparently, Andvari decided to go with option two, and a second later Magnus was holding an old, small, slimy dwarf.
" Congratulations," Andvari said." You got me. And now you're gonna get a tragic demise!"
A/N: Do I have anything new to write today? No, no I don't, so I'll end the chapter here. I hope at least someone somewhat enjoyed this chapter, any to all comments from anyone about anything make my day, and just keep in mind the world is your erster.
