I Already Hate Him

Surprisingly, the car ride wasn't actually that bad, we got to basically relax ( well, we were given the opportunity to relax at least) for as long as it took to get to Hearthstone's dad's house.

For a little while I though I knew what to expect from the house Hearth grew up in, based on how the rest of Alfheim had been so far. Spoiler, I was not prepared. When we drove through the front gates I just stared around in shock. The yard itself was... well, to big to compare it to anything else, and it took two bridges, four gardens, and another set of gates before we even saw the house itself.

It looked like someone had built a castle, looked at it, and decided 'no, that's not modern enough,' so they remodeled it and ended up with whatever the heck I was looking at.

The car drove up to the front door.

     " Out," Wildflower instructed.

Hearth immediately moved to the trunk, telling them, in his own way, to open it and let Blitzen out.

" Yeah, fine," Sunspot said, opening the trunk." Though I don't see why you care. That has got to be the ugliest dwarf lawn ornament I've ever seen."

Wildflower pushed Magnus towards the door." Move, thick."

" Hey!" Magnus interjected." Whatever thick means, I'm not it."

The elf laughed." Have you looked in the mirror recently?"

I looked at my brother, and, in a way, I could see what Wallflower meant, Magnus was the shortest person there. Growing up, I was always taller than him. He used to claim that he just hadn't had his growth spurt, but now that we're dead, he never will have his growth spurt, meaning I'd always be taller than him.

We walked up the steps, and once we reached the porch the front door swung open and someone rushed out to meet us. The girl was much to short to be an elf, although she had the same hair color and basic bone structure as the other elves I'd met.

" Hearth!" The girl exclaimed, before her excitement quickly toned down." Mr. Hearthstone, I mean."

Hello, sorry. Hearth signed, mixing the two words together.

" Is your master here, Inge?" Wildflower asked.

     " Oh... yes sir, but-"

     " Go get him."

Inge ran off, and after she turned away to get Hearth's dad, Magnus pointed out the obvious.

     " She's got a cow tail."

" Well, she's a hulder," Sunspot said with a laugh." It would be illegal for her to hide that tail. We'd have to bring her in on charges of impersonating a proper elf."

" I don't think the boy has ever seen a hulder before, Sunspot. What's the matter, thick? They don't have domesticated forest sprites in whatever world you crawled out of?"

The more the two of them talked, the more glad I was that they had elected to ignore my existence rather than constantly insult it.

After a moment more of waiting, Mr. Alderman appeared in the foyar. As soon as we spotted him everyone, including Sunspot and Wildflower, took a step back. He stared at Hearthstone.

" Well, you're back. At least you had enough sense to bring the two children of Frey with you."

     Sunspot coughed." Sorry sir, who?"

" These two," Mr. Alderman gestured towards my brother and I." Magnus and Willow Chase, children of Frey, isn't it?"

     " That's us," Magnus replied.

Both Sunspot and Wildflower's expressions immediately changed.

" We- we didn't know. We, um-"

" Thank you, officers," Mr. Alderman interrupted." I will take it from here."

Both of the elves turned towards my brother and I, not seeming to find the right words to say.

" You heard the man," Magnus told them." Off you go, Officers Sunspot and Wildflower. And don't worry, we'll remember you."

The two bowed ( like, actually bowed) before quickly leaving.

Mr. Alderman turned to look at his son once again." You're the same. At least the dwarf has turned to stone. That's an improvement."

Hearths face looked angry ( at least angry compared to how he usually looked. His name is B-L-I-T-Z-E-N.

" Stop," Alderman instructed." None of that ridiculous hand-waving. Come inside, we must properly welcome our guests."
