wow may be a rude awakening but i'm sure it's just because she's anti social but that won't stop me she seems like a nice girl very pretty. i pass her back a note.
"wow tell me how you really feel"
"shut up i'm not trying to make any friends just let me focus"
"gee looks like someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed"
I start giggling and Seren looks up and notices that i was passing notes to the girl. She makes a face and rolls her eyes. Did I do something?? I'm just trying to make a friend.

class ends and I follow the girl.

Serenity stops me and pulls me aside.
"Hey what the hell were you doing passing notes that weirdo"
"Nothing and she's not weird and it's not like you know her or anything"
"Do you not know?? why do you think no one talks to them??"
"What do you mean"

It all started back in freshmen year, their name is Sam Winters, they came out as non binary awhile ago but back to the story, they would always hang out with this one girl, Sandra, they were the best of weirdos and what not. They were always together so when the incident happened everyone figured Sam had something to do with it. After the night of the school dance they both went missing we couldn't find them for about a week but Sam made it back...alone without Sandra, Sam claims they were both beaten physically and sexually but no one believed them and they were almost charged as Sandras murderer. Now everyone avoids them and they think anyone who tries to talk to them is just gonna make fun of them for their past. They were my neighbor but my mom told me to never interact with them, even their parents didn't want them, Sams parents tried to send them away or at least to a mental hospital but Sam wanted to finish high school first.

"Oh no I feel so bad for her"
"I don't know she didn't really have proof of anything so she could be lying about all this"
"What?! why would she lie??"
"Who knows people do anything for attention these days"
"Wow I can't believe you...I gotta go"

After hearing all this I start looking for Sam. I see them outside by a nearby tree reading and listening to music. I tap on their shoulder.
"Hey stranger" I say with a smile
"That's it I'm leaving"
"Hey hey wait up"
"What do you want?? did someone send you to talk to the loner or something"
"No I just wanted to hang out with you"
"I'm not sure your girlfriend would be to happy about that"

There Seren is staring me down.

"She may be a little scary but it's nothing don't you wanna eat lunch?? we could eat lunch together!"
"I'm good thanks I'm not gonna hang out with someone like you"
"What-?"

Someone like me. Because I'm a little overweight. Because I'm not enough. Because I don't look like the other pretty girls at school?? Because Im not skinny enough or have a slim waist with the perfect hands and keeping up with the trendy clothes. Or the best hair instead it being crazy. And having to wear glasses and braces. Because I'm not perfect?

I run past Serenity to use the bathroom to wipe my tears away. She follows me knowing Sam did something wrong.
"What did they do to make you cry"
"Nothing it's tears of joy nothing to worry about"
"I swear I'm gonna beat their ass if you don't tell me"
"You'll do it either way"
"So they did say something?!!!"
"No of course not, I just don't understand why no believed them when they needed their loved ones most"
"It doesn't matter anymore their friend is dead and forgotten. It's time to move on why do you care so much anyways"
"I...i don't know just forget it"

I get back home after a dreaded day.

I take off my clothes into something more comfortable. I lay in my bed crying away all my problems until I hear a knock at the door. Assuming it's Seren begging for answers I open up and see Sam.

"Hey oh Sam I'm sorry give me a minute"

I clean up my face put back on my clothes and run back to the door.

"Hey sorry for the wait come in please"

"Wow your house is nice, I didn't mean to intrude I just wanted to apologize for earlier. I didn't mean to trigger you in any way I just...cant let you be friends with me for the sake of your reputation. Please just leave me alone."
"I understand why you feel this way but I still care and when you are ready to have a friend again I'm always here"
She blushes and looks up and hugs me but then quickly runs out the door and leaves.
